When it comes to weddings it’s fair to say that we Irish tend to spend more than a few bucks getting everything ‘just perfect’. Which is all well and good once you stay within your set budget and it’s a budget you can comfortably afford. But what if you could find the dress of your dreams, have an amazing experience while doing so, bag an absolute bargain and help others at the same time? Sounds way better than scrimping and scraping for that big white dress, right?

Facebook Reviews

“First time in beloved today, Saturday 4th Feb, great displays, friendly staff, brilliant value and beautiful shop, well worth a visit. When you walk in you get a great feeling of pride from the staff, mainstream retailers should take note.”

“First time in the Malahide shop today, bought a dress for a black tie event! The staff could not have been nicer!! Will definitely be back!!”

“This is a great shop: I got a gorgeous purple velvet clutch to go with an outfit for a wedding – only a tenner!”

Reviews

“Maire was so nice and helpful to me – I went in mostly to get an idea of what they had and what kind of prices, and kept an open mind when it came to style. She was really knowledgeable, full of handy tips and not pushy at all. Even though I don’t think I found ‘the dress’ this time, I will certainly be coming back for another look!! I couldn’t believe how good value the dresses were, and in perfect condition.”

“Very helpful, lovely range of brand new dresses, got a beautiful dress for a fraction of the price while helping out a good cause. Would definitely recommend anyone to try there first, especially if you’re not set on a particular style. Great help getting in and out of dresses, would rival any bridal shop. The biggest selection were in the size 10 to 12 category.”

10 of this Year’s Most Coveted Bridal Designers

$

0

While we’re prone to gushing about all things ruffles and frills and sleek and chic here in weddingsonline HQ, we honestly don’t think we’ve ever been as excited about bridal as we are this year. The all-new 2017 collections have truly something for everyone and designers are again pushing the boat out and challenging what we consider ‘bridal’ with their unique and contemporary take on the traditional. Those at the forefront hail from all corners of the world – a wonderful confirmation of how women’s fashion can be unique and diverse yet universally appealing. Today we’re taking a look at some of the designers we think you’ll be coveting most for 2017. Get ready to fall in love ten times over!

1. Suzanne Harward

We gushed about her earlier this year in our guide to the top Australian bridal designers to watch for 2017, and Suzanne Harward is most certainly one of our overall cream of the crop internationally. Long sleeves, high necklines and spectacular overlays are the standout features of Suzanne Harward’s stunning 2017 collection, where conservative glamour is the order of the day. A hint of folklore is present throughout, with pretty puffed sleeves and ruffle collars making a real statement and adding something truly unique to modern bridal wear. For a list of stockists click here.

2. Liz Martinez

Absolutely knocking it out of the park in our feature on incredible Israeli bridal designers to watch out for earlier this year, Liz Martinez is also way up there with our pick of the top bridal for this 2017 with her impossibly beautiful, on-trend 2017 collection. Liz has been referred to as the ‘Cinderella’ of Israeli bridal designers, and is admired for her passion and politics (as a vocal supporter of young girls and women) as well as her superior craftsmanship and innovative designs. For stockists click here.

3. Justin Alexander

Justin Alexander is a name synonymous with vintage, Old Hollywood style designs, luxurious fabrics and intricate details and their 2017 collection exudes modern romance. Ballgowns with clean lines and subtle embellishments (akin to Rosa Clara’s signature styles) bring a real contemporary edge, while mermaids are veering more towards fit and flare or trumpet styles, offering a softer, more delicate silhouette that will flatter any figure. Justin Alexander stockists in Ireland include McElhinneys Bridal Rooms in Donegal and Amarra Bridal in Kildare.

4. Grace Loves Lace

Grace Loves Lace has been popping up in our edits of romantic, modern or destination dresses for a couple of seasons now but this year the entire collection merits massive attention unto itself. Modern silhouettes decorated with crisp white accents, geometric printed lace, long raglan sleeves and daringly low keyhole backs are the focal point of Blanc and indeed this contemporary feel flows through to sharply tailored separates (including a pair of stunning silk palazzo pants that we very much adore) and simple accessories. Grace Loves Lace is not currently stocked in Ireland but dresses and accessories are available for purchase through graceloveslace.co.auContact the team directly with any enquiries.

5. Halfpenny London

The 2017 collection from the incredible Kate Halfpenny of Halfpenny London is nothing short of a triumph, and we’re so excited to include the designer in our pick of the most coveted for 2017. Halfpenny London designs for women, understanding women’s bodies and their individuality and making pieces that work for them (“not dresses women have to work out for”). This year’s avant garde cover-ups and fanciful features make a brilliantly playful statement with styles that are not only fashion-forward and expertly tailored but are a lot of fun to wear. We’re obsessed with the modern, romantic, Brit-cool vibe to this collection, and can’t wait to see some brides rocking the gowns this year.

6. Daughters of Simone

Daughters of Simone duo Brittany and Ashley began their label with revamped vintage gowns and after garnering a cultish following, developed into a design house for non-traditional brides. We love the mantra of the DoS brand, and the dresses are simply out of this world. Soft tulle and lace, striking, feminine features and just the right balance between elegance and whimsy make each a joy to behold and wear. This is one collection that demands all the attention and all the respect. For stockists click here.

7. Laure de Sagazan

The Queen of all that is cool in bridal, Parisian Laure de Sagazan is having what they often call in fashion a ‘moment’. We’ve featured her 2016 collection in our guides to the top French bridal designers last year and she also pops up regularly in our edits of stunning separates, perfect pantsuits and the most beautiful backs in bridal, but the huge variety of unique, contemporary, effortlessly chic pieces in her 2017 collection make her a dead certain for one of the top ten bridal designers this year. Utter perfection.

8. Emma Victoria Payne

So this one is actually quite new to us, but when we came across Emma Victoria Payne‘s dreamy 2017 collection we knew immediately brides this year would be swooning over her designs. The collection is cool, ethereal and very very wearable (quite an important aspect, no?!) and is as at home in a beautiful rustic barn as it is in a formal manor house and gardens or on the beaches in Bali. Stunning lace designs are used throughout, and the softest skirts help to create a real feminine feel. Emma Victoria Payne’s designs are available from her flagship boutique in the heart of Knightsbridge in London.

9. Christos Costarellos

Christos Costarellos is simply all sorts of swoon-worthy and we are coveting Every. Single. One of their gowns from their Fall 2017 collection. It’s the Victorian style high necklines that caught our attention in this one, and the long sleeves and ultra unique laces that got us hooked. These conservative gowns allow for a super chic and stylish look that enhances the wearer’s natural beauty while creating a powerful yet romantic overall vibe. For stockists of Christos Costarellos click here.

10. Berta

Undoubtedly one of the designers of recent years, Berta it seems just gets better and better. The Israeli designer’s 2017 collection is yet another hum-dinger; thigh high slits, flowing skirts, plunging necklines and daring backless numbers abound, with full-on-glamour being the order of the day. Always a hit on sites like Pinterest and Instagram, these gowns are an intriguing alternative to the traditional, but as you can imagine aren’t the easiest to wear! We’ll be quietly admiring them from afar, envious of the brides who just went for it. Find your nearest Berta stockist here.

The Effortlessly Chic & Cool Laure de Sagazan 2017 Collection

If ever there was a time to share the ultimate, effortlessly cool, chic and breezy collection from the inimitable Laure de Sagazan, it’s on this super sunny Spring day! Laure de Sagazan has been on our minds since we came across her conservative and contemporary designs two years ago, and the designer has continued to shake up bridal with her experimental separates and serious silhouettes.

Expert tailoring is key in each Laure de Sagazan piece, with clean lines creating a fresh feel to satins and heavier fabrics, where buttons and other embellishments are used to create an illusion of structure. Lighter French laces however are what brings the romance to these subtle designs, and elevates them to the more luxurious concept of bridal in de Sagazan’s wholly non-traditional way.

From the master craftsmanship and the soft sultry silhouettes to the exquisite fabrics and swoon-worthy back detailing (and of course the dreamy setting and tip top styling!) we’re absolutely head over heels for this collection.

Introducing the Eccentric, Elegant Hermione de Paula Bridal Collection

Hermione de Paula may not be a household name just yet, but for this London-based designer of all that is beautiful in boho bridal, it’s surely only a matter of time before her name is as broadly recognised as the Alice Temperleys and Suzanne Nevilles before her. A designer for cooler than cool urban brides who favour a pared back style with an edge, HdeP has become one of London’s most in vogue designers, receiving high praises for her collaborations with Matthew Williamson and Nicholas Kirkwood on ready-to-wear and footwear lines, and even designing luxurious silk gowns for the Queen of Thailand in her down-time.

The HdeP brand is built on a foundation where the traditional English Country Garden meets the mysterious exotic, and results in quirky and playful embellishments adorning timeless silhouettes. For many, a HdeP dress is more a piece of art than mere clothing – the designer’s peculiar prints, eccentric embroidery and distinctive details exhibit a looser, more liberal attitude towards bridal.

Top quality fabrics and materials, expert tailoring and artisanal craftsmanship ensure that every dress is a bespoke beauty, made with the utmost care “by heart and hand”. With a HdeP gown, brides work with the designer and her team to make sure the dress or separates are completely tailored to their style and personality. These gowns are edgy and bold, with an air of the whimsical and mischievous based in the romantic and elegant. They’re worn with a wink and a nod by the fun and the funky, always completely delightful and still painfully chic.

The Incredibly Chic Karen Willis Holmes Collection – Wild Hearts

Australian designer Karen Willis Holmes has been designing for brides since 2004 when she premiered her Bespoke collection; a range of gowns for women with a penchant for the couture, but a budget for ready to wear. In 2015 she launched Wild Hearts, her answer to the demand for chic and classic gowns for a ‘free spirited’ boho bride.

The Karen Willis Holmes 2017 offering is very much a continuation of this informal, free-flowing but classic and timeless style of dress, reflecting the increasing demand for versatility in separates and for romantic, ethereal style gowns. Containing an array of bodices and skirts, the collection can be mixed and matched seamlessly to create a unique look for every bride. Dreamy laces, sparkling embellishments, romantic tulle and flowing georgettes combine to create depth and volume in each variation, and silhouettes are cut to accentuate the female form while floral appliques and expert embroidery add a couture-like stamp.

Karen Willis Holmes is stocked in Ireland in Ivory and Pearl in Co. Down and Beau Bride in Naas, Kildare. For more stockists and information on the other collections from Karen Willis Holmes, visit karenwillisholmes.com

If you’ve just become engaged and you’re not already on the Pinterest buzz yet honestly, we’d recommend staying away – because the sheer number of hours we’ve spent skimming through the stunning images on there is almost criminal! But the good thing about the time we’ve spent browsing through some of the most popular Pins is it means we can curate the best of the best for you here!

The most popular wedding dress on Pinterest is the fabulous Hollie by Grace Loves Lace. It’s since sold out (2000 dresses later) and Grace Loves Lace has retired the style to make way for the Hollie II, an equally beautiful gown that has yet to soar to the heights stat-wise as its predecessor, but a gorgeous gúna we’ve no doubt will be a hit with boho brides all over the world in 2017. Israeli designers such as Berta and Inbal Dror have been a humongous hit on Pinterest pretty much since its inception, with their glamorous, low backed, full trained gowns skimming the bodies of (goddesses) in lookbook images shot in the sun kissed coasts of Italy and the Med. Happily enough however it’s real brides who make up the majority of the most popular bridal posts on Pinterest – and indeed they’re the ones we like to see the most here at weddingsonline! So today we’re sharing a mix of our fave wedding dress images from Pinterest from the designers to the real brides themselves.

We’re huge fans of pretty much everything Maggie Sottero touches so when little sister label Sottero & Midgley launched Malone – a collection featuring not only statement-making gowns for the ultimate glamazon but a variety of romantic, show-stopping separates too – we got all kinds of excited.

Decadent gold floral appliques, romantic ribbons of pearl and Swarovski crystals, scalloping motifs and beautiful beaded accents provide a big impact bridal factor to the dresses, while soft and airy tulle and elegant eyelet lace create depth and texture. The 8 Amazing Bridal Trends you NEED to Know for 2017

$
0
0

Following trends is not something anyone really wants to admit to, but when it comes to bridal in 2017 you won’t NOT want to add at least one of these fabulous features to your Big Day Look. From romantic sheer bishop sleeves to sexy separates to stunning statement skirts, this year is taking whimsy and chic and mixing it up to create truly unique and fashion-forward wedding wear.

Like last year, there are trends that are going absolutely nowhere again for 2017 and one unsurprisingly is the statement back. Designers are finding more and more unusual ways to draw attention to the back of the dress, whether through daring cut-out keyholes, intricate embellishments, sheer or lace fabrics or by simply having no back at all! Another trend that shows no signs of letting up is lace, and it’s become even more unusual and statement-making for 2017. And while high Victorian collars have moved to the mainstream, we’re still seeing our fair share of striking plunging necks…

Statement Backs

Backs are where it’s at again this year with pretty statement-making embellishments and plunging V lines the stand-out of the bunch. Carried out beautifully by designers such as Divine Atelier, Viktor & Rolf, Sofie Sarfati and Alexander Grecco – to name a few – the eye-catching back is a trend we hope to see going on in bridal for many years to come.

Romantic Sleeves

We’ve been sleeve enthusiasts for as long as we remember (yep, we said it), and are so excited to see designers getting even more creative with them for 2017. Billowing bell sleeves, lavish lace and stunning sheer peasant and bishop styles make for a really romantic feel to dresses and add a true uniqueness to the bride’s overall look.

Plunging Necklines

It mightn’t be the biggest trend for Irish brides (and certainly not for those opting for a church wedding) but it seems the plunging neckline is going nowhere for 2017 as designers take it to new… well, lows… The plunging neckline is daring, sure, but balanced correctly – or made a bit more subtle with a sheer insert – it can be carried off with elegance and style. Just make sure to invest in some decent tape for the Big Day.

Separates

The style is strong in bridal separates this year, and with beautiful options from designers such as Inmaculada Garcia and Rue de Seine brides are spoiled for choice when it comes to creating a unique look that’s possible to wear even after the Big Day! Pretty tea-length skirts, crop tops, cashmere jumpers or layer upon layer of tulle can be mixed and matched with aplomb by those with an innate sense of style. We love to see brides flexing their fashion muscles on their Big Day, and hope to see even more in 2017!

Off-the-Shoulder

If you’re going for romantic, you’ve officially met your trend of the year. Soft, sexy off-the-shoulder dresses are not the biggest trend of the year by all means, but they are appearing in the collections of some of our favourite designers for 2017. This is an easy trend to wear and works for either formal or boho style brides.

Soft A-Lines

The prettiest silhouette of the year has to be the soft A-line, which is taking over from the structured mermaid and chic column and creating wedding dresses that are all about romance – and comfort! The A-line looks amazing on all shapes and sizes, and can be an absolute dream to wear.

Last but not least is lace – arguably the bridal trend of the year for 2017 – appearing in the most incredible forms throughout collections all over the world. Most designers have included at least one full lace gown in their 2017 offering, with some having lace created especially for their designs.

Luscious Lace – Steal Pippa Middleton’s Wedding Dress Style

There was only one thing anyone could talk about at the weekend – that dress! Having wowed with her show-stopping Alexander McQueen bridesmaid dress at her sister Kate’s wedding back in 2011, Pippa Middleton has become a fashion icon all of her own so we were super exited to see what she’d don for her Big Day. And it didn’t disappoint – Pippa looked like a classic beauty in a custom made Giles Deacon wedding dress as she married fiancé James Matthews.

The incredible bespoke gown was constructed entirely of lace (hand appliqued to create the impression of having no seams), featured a sweeping full skirt, beautiful cap sleeves and high neck and was reported to have cost in the region of £40K. She completed her look with a Stephen Jones veil, Maidenhair fern tiara by Robinson Pelham, satin Manolo Blanik pumps and sister Kate’s Robinson Pelham pearl earrings as her something old. We’re head over heels in love with this stunning wedding dress, so today we’re taking some inspo from her gorgeous Big Day look and have rounded up 16 exquisite lace wedding dresses, similar in style. Check out 16 stunning lace wedding gowns below…

The Boho Bride

The boho bride is carefree, romantic, confident and comfortable. Recently bohemian style brides have been hugely catered for with bridal blogs and boutiques shining a light on some incredible indie designers out there who share a love of light-as-air fabrics, dreamy A-lines and to-die-for back details. For 2017 the boho bride can go back to what was the re-emergence of the boho trend, with 70s style gowns popping up in collections like those from Divine Atelier and Jenny Packham, who are introducing some of the most prominent design features from the era into their current bridal designs.

The Classic Bride

Many people are apprehensive about calling themselves ‘classic’ or ‘traditional’ nowadays, but when it comes to weddings, timeless gowns in traditional shapes will always win out. Classic brides look to styles that suit their personality first and the style of their Big Day second and oftentimes the overall style of the day will come directly from the bride’s dress style. Of course there isn’t really a particular silhouette that conforms to ‘traditional’ – although for many it will be the ballgown – which means it’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable, and the most like the bride you want to be for your day.

The Magpie

We all have a bit of the Magpie in us – sure who could resist those glitzy, eye-catching, intricate embellishments appearing on some of the most beautiful gúnas currently popping up on Pinterest and on blogs for 2017. If you’re a Swarovski fiend, designers such as Anna Campbell and Needle & Thread will be right up your street, with their intricate beading adorning the most sleek and chic silhouettes. Brides with a penchant for bling are absolutely spoiled this year with some of the gorge designs out there, your only trouble will be whittling them down.

The Fashion-forward Bride

Although in general terms fashion has become more subtle, streamlined, chic and… well let’s just say Scandi and get it out of the way… there are those guys and gals looking to push the boat out for bridal fashion and make entirely new silhouettes a ‘norm’. Pantsuits, jumpsuits, GoT style capes and cutouts are the fashion-forward bride’s forte, and we are in love with the look. It takes some confidence to stand out from the crowd but sure if 2017 isn’t the year to do it we don’t know when will be.

The City Bride

We must preface this by saying city brides are obviously no different to those getting married in the ‘burbs or countryside. Now that that’s out of the way we also have to say that the idea of a city bride does conjure some style ideas, which are namely for us; separates, tea lengths, pantsuits and shorter cocktail dresses. This year the separates reign, with midriff-baring tees and pencil skirts just ticking all sorts of chic boxes. Best thing about this look? You can probably get it for a pinch on the high street, and wear it again and again and again and again…

The Fine Art Bride

We sound a little naff when we refer to the ‘fine art bride‘ but believe us it’s a thing! The fine art bride is all about soft shades (anything off-white will do), light as air fabrics and apparently just wind blowing around her all the time (at least when a camera is pointed at her anyway). For a fine art bride we love Alexandra Grecco, Samuelle Couture, Pronovias, possibly Mira Zwillinger and old Vera Wang, who do (did) some stunning soft yet big impact gowns that photograph amazingly.

The Daring Bride

It’s fair to say the daring bride is getting all the attention when it comes to bridal collections at the moment. Plunging necklines, cut-outs, revealing separates, mind-mindbogglingly low backs… the list of risqúe features goes on. The major concentration of daring designers at the moment is in Israel, where Inbal Dror, Berta, Gahlia Lahav and Lihi Hod are currently holding the fort but we think we’ll be seeing plenty more up and coming designers willing to challenge bridal traditions with sensual silhouettes and daring features over the next year.

The Couture Bride

Got expensive taste no matter how much you try to repress it? These designers are for you. Rosa Clara, Viktor & Rolf, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera the list goes on (as the budget dwindles!) Couture brides are fans of the timeless; structured silhouettes, subtle features and perfectly tailored clean lines but this year designers are adding a little extra to their chic shapes in the form of bows and beading. We love the long sleeves and high necks on 2017’s crop of couture gowns and can’t wait to see them popping up in real weddings soon.

The Contemporary Bride

We were going to say ‘hipster’ bride for this one but settled on cool and contemporary after much debate! As we mentioned already, separates are big in bridal again this year, and designers nailing them include Sanyukta Shtrestha, Laure de Sagazan and Sarah Seven have nailed theirs, but it’s not all skirts and tees for modern brides this year. Cool, contemporary wear is also all about that muted, conservative feel from high neck, long sleeved lace gowns which are very much the dress style of the moment. For this style, look to designers such as Needle & Thread, Temperley, Suzanne Harward and Houghton Bridal for a start.

10 of this Year’s Most Coveted Bridal Designers

$

16 Stunning Bridal Separates that’ll Change What you Think about Wedding Dresses

Summer brides have all the luck when it comes to choosing their wedding dress, and for those looking for an alternative summer style, we’re all about some impossibly romantic bridal separates. Separates have become more and more popular for stylish brides to create their own unique look on their Big Day – and also to have the opportunity to don some of their bridal wear way after the celebrations. While the crop top and skirt may not be for everyone, that’s not the only option out there for contemporary brides. We love the look of a soft tee with a huge chiffon skirt, or a simple spaghetti strap top and a full tulle skirt. Vintage loving brides will love a cute collar top and prom style midi skirt while fashionistas can go for a chic shirt and satin skirt combo (see the très chic Oscar de la Renta number below). Today we’ve compiled some of the most elegant, ethereal, soft and romantic styled separates we’ve come across to inspire you towards your own unique wedding wear!

Wedding Dress Regrets – What To Do

$
0
0

Are you having wedding dress regrets? It’s ok, you can tell us. Nowadays, ‘I’ve found the one’ doesn’t just mean your future spouse – it’s now the dress too! The wrong choice could lead to tears and disappointment. What to do?

It’s undeniable – the dress is always the THING. It’s what many brides look forward to the most. It’s when they get to be the princess for a day. It’s a secret best kept from the fiancé(e), not just because of bad luck and all that, but because of the ‘wow’ factor. So you go to the store, try on several dresses. Maybe you get swept away by compliments, or the sales girl says it’s the last one and comes with a discount, or maybe it’s your 12th store and you still haven’t hit the jackpot, but the one you have on right now seems sort of better than all others. You pay a deposit, you go home, you go to bed with niggles, and by the time you wake up, they’ve turned into major regrets.

You don’t like your wedding dress.

‘I should have known’, many brides say. ‘I didn’t cry when I put it on’. Well, tears aren’t an indicator of a successful shopping trip. Your mam probably cried at every dress you tried on, and that would lead to bankruptcy. The crying thing is yet another expectation that brides got stuck on somehow (akin to an engagement ring having to cost two months’ salary – a genius marketing ploy by De Beers).

The truth is, there are millions of wedding dresses out there, with literally hundreds of thousands of new ones being made every year. Don’t you think finding ‘the one’ among them might be a wee bit of a challenge? The dress you need to buy is the one that fits you perfectly, accentuates your best assets and flatters any imperfections.

Before you buy

Look at lots of photos and identify some looks you love. Are you leaning towards full skirts, lace, frills or vintage? It’s a good indicator of where your tastes lie. Please do keep an open mind when you look at the professional shots – most of those models are inhumanely thin and stand on boxes to look even more like willowy gazelles. Unless you’re one of them yourself, it’s best to look at the dress alone.

Ask someone you trust about your assets – if you don’t already know what they are. Tiny waist? Gorgeous shoulders? Swan-like neck? Killer legs? Show them off! You could also ask someone you trust about your imperfections, if you feel comfortable enough. The more you know, the better the chance of getting the right dress.

If you don’t want to ask, it’s shop ladies to the rescue. We can’t even tell you how many times brides set their minds on one style, only to be shown another they never would have looked at before and BOOM – that’s the one. Tis true, the shop ladies have a commission to earn. But they’re also total professionals and they don’t want any dresses to be returned. So it’s in their best interest to show you nothing less than perfect.

Check out our complete A-Z guide to wedding dress shopping for brilliant advice!

If they’re mean to you, leave. Sorry to put it so bluntly, but you’re about to spend a big chunk of money on a very important outfit. They shouldn’t have your money if you feel in any way belittled or ignored, or even worse.

Don’t buy the dress on that very day – sleep on it. Most bridal stores will give you time to think about it, so you’ll be able to get back to them with a final yes or no. Also, ask about the return policy, or ‘cooling-off period’, if any. You may have to sacrifice part of your deposit.

After you buy

wedding-dress-alterations-couture-care

Image via Couture Care Alterations

Has it been altered yet? Trying on a dress that hasn’t been altered to fit your shape may leave you feeling a bit meh. It can be hard to picture that final end result on that first fitting but do bear in mind that the seamstress may still have to work her magic on it and before you disown it completely. It will be like a different dress when it’s been altered.

What exactly don’t you like about your dress, and can it be fixed? Believe us when we say, seamstresses can perform miracles. Too flouncy? Take some stuff off. Too plain? Add some embellishments (sash, beading, jewellery, funky shoes). Uncomfortable? A small alteration can make all the difference. It’s easier to fix problems when you know what they are.

Speak to the store. Some will take a dress back, but will keep the deposit or part of it. Consider if it makes sense to cut your losses. Don’t rely on eBay too much, you should only realistically expect to get back about a quarter of the price. Ask if you can exchange, or if they have any advice on what else you can do.

Don’t worry about what your fiancé(e) and guests will think. Whatever your dress worries, we guarantee nobody else thinks the same. No groom ever looks at his bride walking towards him, and thinks ‘gee, that style really isn’t doing her any favours’. No guest ever thinks ‘she’d look perfect if only there were more rhinestones.’ A bride is a beautiful sight to behold – the details don’t matter. All anyone ever says is how happy or radiant she looked – not that her dress had too much lace.

Don’t make yourself feel worse by looking at more dresses. Of course you can still look, but it doesn’t mean you’ve made a mistake. There’s looking for enjoyment, and there’s looking for your next dress. Concentrate on how to fix what you’ve bought, not on finding a replacement where possible.

Try a creative solution. Do you really think your dress is too plain? Consider statement jewellery and let it do all the talking. Is it too big, too much, bit too Princess Diana? Consider a redux – taking away some layers, adding a simple satin bolero, taking off some bling. Is it ok, but could use some wow? Consider amazing shoes, a stunning cape, or a really fantastic bouquet.

Don’t judge the dress by the dress alone. You already know every outfit looks better when your makeup is perfect, your hair gorgeous and you’re wearing the most amazing shoes. So next time you go to try on your dress, make sure you’re all made up and dazzling – it could make all the difference. In fact, it’s the first bit of advice real brides-to-be give each other when faced with this dilemma. See the total look and then check how you feel. The hair and makeup plus veil or headpiece could make all the difference.

Bite the bullet. If you truly, truly end up hating it, and it gives you sleepless nights, it may be time to reconsider your purchase. Speak to your fiancé(e) or your mam, ask for advice and discuss your budget. Call the store and ask what they can do for you. Don’t make the final decision until you know all your options.

If you’re having regrets, leave us a comment – we’ll be glad to help!

We recently revealed our most popular real weddings on the weddingsonline blog this year so today we’re taking a trip down memory lane and looking at some of the fabulous dresses our real brides donned for their Big Day! There was some serious glamour and style in this year’s weddings from show-stopping ball gowns and dazzling vintage inspired numbers to chic lace numbers. If you’re on the hunt for your own wedding dress and are looking for inspo and ideas, be sure to take a peek at our round-up with lots of some stunning gowns as seen in our 2017 real weddings…

Antonia’s dress… My dress took a while to find! I visited so many shops and just couldn’t get what I was looking for. I went into every shop and said I didn’t want lace and I didn’t want sleeves… and look what I ended up in! The dress had a delicate lace jacket that I took off before we entered the ballroom and it was then strapless. I got it in The Bridal Outlet. My good friend, Louise, from My Fair Lady Bridal in Tullamore gifted me my belt and veil and they finished off the dress perfectly.

Rebecca’s dress… Rebecca opted for fab bridal separates for her boho-inspired wedding.

Fiona’s dress… My dress was by Don O’Neill, Theia. I got it in Folkster Bridal in Kilkenny. It was love at first sight!

Gaynor’s dress… We were living in England at the time so it was from a bridal boutique called Ava Rose Hamilton in Lancashire, the designer is Justin Alexander Signature.

Anne Marie’s dress… Anne Marie got her dress from Folkster and designed the stunning belt to accessorise it herself.

Sarah’s dress… my dress was Stella York Style 6247 (antique inspired).

Laura’s dress… from the moment we got engaged I knew I wanted a gold coloured dress and fell in love with mine first online. It was ‘Sottero and Midgley Marisol’ from Cameo Bridal, Kilkenny. Lynda and the girls there were amazing from start to finish. I needed some alterations so the dress was in the shop for a while but I looked forward to each fitting just to chat with the girls and see the dress another time!!

Laura’s dress… My dress was from Dinagh Models Bridal Boutique.

See Laura & Daniel’s real wedding by The Fennells

Laura’s dress… I bought my Watters dress in ‘Lovely Bride’ in Tribeca, New York. My mam was more than willing to make multiple trips to New York during the dress hunt to make sure we found the right one, which also involved a visit to the famous ‘Say yes to the dress’ shop!

See Heather & Richie’s real wedding by Couple Photography

Heather’s dress… was Giselle by Anna Campbell. I loved the style of the Australian designer Anna Campbell’s dresses and had been browsing them online for months. I love the lightness and flow of the material and the embellishments are stunning. The dress had an ivory silk finish with a French lace over it, I loved wearing it! My headpiece was a bespoke piece by Caoimhe Keane, ‘Que Va’. I asked Caoimhe to make me a headpiece to match my dress, she used diamonds and pearls and it really matched perfectly, she is so talented.

See Michelle & Conor’s real wedding by Colin Colleran Photography

Michelle’s dress… was a bespoke custom made dress. I had shopped around in a lot of places with my mam and sister. We went to Dublin/Belfast etc. and nothing tickled my fancy after trying on several dresses. I then decided I would design a dress based on what I liked from a few dresses and put it into one. I got the material just outside Belfast (on recommendations from a local dressmaker) and got the local Monaghan lady to make the dress. It was everything that I had wanted in a dress. It was made for me and it was just perfect. It really was my dream wedding dress which was made for me which made it very special.

Chereen’s dress… My dress was from The Bridal Studio, Drogheda.

See Deirdre & Mike’s real wedding by Couple Photography

Deirdre’s dress… Was from Alexanders Bridal on Parnell Street, it took an awful long time to find and get right but it was worth it! The staff were great and made sure I was 100% happy with it.

See Crystal & Brian’s real wedding by Glamour Algarve Weddings

Crystal’s dress… I had three dresses: For the beach I wore Catherine Deane and Forever 21, for dinner I wore Alexander McQueen (above) and for the after party, I wore a  Zara dress

Samantha’s dress… was Ella Rosa from House of Tamem Michael.

See Fiona & Sean’s real wedding by by Emma Russell Photography

Fiona’s dress… was the first dress that I tried on! It was a beautiful dress by Herms Bridal at Kathy De Stafford. I tried on the dress and absolutely loved it but I was not willing to give up the experience of trying on every dress in Dublin so I continued to shop, tried on about 100 dresses and went back to the very first dress. I loved the experience of dress shopping. I always knew that I would go for a big romantic dress and what I loved about my dress was the lace overlay on top that I could take off later in the day. I also loved the little bow on the front, the buttons at the back and the romantic tulle. I also wanted a big veil, which Kathy kindly made for me. Angela in Kathy de Stafford was amazing and Kathy herself did my alterations. I would highly recommend them to any bride as they made the experience so special.

See Jane & Ger’s real wedding by M&M Photography

Jane’s dress… my dress was  a two piece Theia couture ensemble designed by Don O’Neill and purchased in Folkster, Kilkenny. I also bought a fur shrug from Folkster (just in case it was a white wedding!).
