The Classic, Contemporary Luna Novias 2017 Collection

$
0
0

The Luna Novias 2017 collection is classic, elegant and – in our opinion – is designed for absolute modern royalty! Traditional silhouettes such as glorious ballgowns and A-lines are given a contemporary touch with the use of modern features like pockets, illusion, lace and bardot-style necklines, and the prettiest, minimal-feel embellishments.

Delicate and flowing, these gowns are for brides who yearn for a bit of romance in their wedding day look, but who also want to feel ultra sophisticated and completely fashion-forward in their choice of dress. Classic empire-waist cuts and skin-skimming fit and flares are prominent in the Luna Novias 2017 range, giving brides a huge amount of options for when it comes to finding the cut to suit their body best, and without compromising on quality or style.

Our stand-out feature from the latest offering from Luna Novias however has to be the range of stunning statement necklines that make up the collection. Whether it’s a simple V-neck, a vintage-style boat neck, a sexy off-the-shoulder style or a clean and classic high-neck tee, Luna Novias has certainly given brides a whole host of options when it comes to silhouettes to suit their style.

Anyone else think there’s something very Audrey Hepburn about this entire collection?!

The Surreal, Striking Viktor & Rolf Bridal Collection

In one of the most anticipated bridal collections of the year, Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf – known for their inimitable scent Flowerbomb – debuted Mariage, a collection of 20 high impact wedding gowns for couture-loving brides. Like their perfumes, V&R delicately balance the sweet with the edgy in each of these gowns. Three-dimensional floral appliques adorn bold asymmetric silhouettes, and features such as bow-spine backs and dramatic ruffles come at you with aplomb, making no excuses for their theatrical, almost surreal nature.

The Viktor & Rolf bridal collection is by no means for everyone, and each gown (or trouser suit!) demands a bride with shed-loads of confidence and a real, innate sense of style. We love the overall volume of some of the beautiful ballgowns in the offering – which harken back to the era-defining wedding gowns from early Vera Wang and echo the exquisite, experimental styles of Carolina Herrera. Bold embellishments, structured cuts and heavy, serious fabrics are the cornerstones of Viktor & Rolf bridal, and we cannot wait to see more.

14 Fabulous Plus Size Wedding Dresses for 2017 Brides

Although most wedding dresses come in a wide range of sizes, sometimes it can be difficult to picture how some will work on curvier figures. And we’ve said it before, it’s difficult even for us to find inspiration for curvy brides as designers just don’t seem to feel the need to feature different shapes and sizes in their lookbooks. Happily however, there are some fabulous designers who have either added a dedicated plus size collection to their repetoire, or are specifically and wholly designing with plus size brides in mind.

Mori Lee with Julietta, Watters with WTOO Curve, Allure Bridal with Women, Roz la Kelin’s Glamour Plus and the exquisite Callista Bride are some of our absolute favourite collections for brides with curves. These collections mix traditional silhouettes with fashion-forward features and embellishments and have something for every personality. Lately we’ve been impressed with some of the more indie style labels designing for stylish and contemporary brides. Online store Igigi has some fab stuff for relaxed, boho brides while Kiyonna designs for city-style brides with pretty tea length dresses and gorgeous lace gúnas.

Shopping for Plus Size Wedding Dresses

The wonderful Shirley’s Bridal Corner in Meath caters exclusively for plus size brides and carries gorgeous dresses in sizes 14 to 32 at very affordable prices. Shirley has been in the wedding dressmaking business for 15 years and fits all her dresses for her brides. Dresses at Shirley’s Bridal Corner are made to order by Shirley’s own measurements. The Impossibly Cool Rime Arodaky 2017 Collection

Rime Arodaky has been exciting us with her effortlessly cool, wild and chic wedding dress designs since she launched her first collection just over two years ago and her 2017 collection is just as edgy and packs just as much attitude as before but with a more mature elegance to past designs.

Part laid-back Parisian cool and part modern glamour, the collection uses a stunning array of luxurious, intoxicating fabrics to create looks that give contemporary cuts a light, delicate and feminine feel. Crop tops, high-low hemmed A-line skirts, 70s style bell sleeves, cutout details and the most fantastical floral appliques make up some of the most striking features of the 2017 collection, a collection that is notably inspired by icons such as Jane Birkin and designers such as YSL.

Rime Arodaky wedding dresses are available online from net-a-porter.com, other stockists of the complete Rime Arodaky line can be found online at rime-arodaky.com.

12 Beautiful Backless & Statement Back Wedding Dresses for 2017

We have been besotted with backs in bridal for years now, and it seems they’re just getting prettier and prettier! Designers such as Laure de Sagazan, Sofie Sarfati and Alexander Grecco are notable designers of a soft, intricate and detailed back, perfect for cool, boho style brides who want a little extra pretty in their Big Day dress. Others, such as Rosa Clara and Charlotte Simpson offer striking and contemporary cuts that make a real impact while designers such as Anna Campbell are the go-to for full on glitz and glamour. We don’t mind if it’s a super low number, an illusion or overly sprinkled with sequins, there’s just something so gorgeous about statement backs and backless wedding dresses, and even after years of being the focal point in bridal, they’re not going anywhere yet!

Modern Luxe – The Justin Alexander 2017 Collection

$

Justin Alexander is a name synonymous with vintage, Old Hollywood style designs, luxurious fabrics and intricate details. For 2017 however, the collections have added more of an edge to their designs with striking additions such as capes and separate trains in their Signature collection and ultra clean and modern fabrics such as crêpe, mikado, and dupion in their house collection. Luxe Charmeuse satin gowns bring a boho feel to the offering, and we’re particularly loving style #8875 – the high neck, low back, flutter sleeve number that’s right at home in a Gatsby garden party.

While the collections exude modern luxury, there is a fairy tale like romance to many of the gowns. Ballgowns with clean lines and subtle embellishments (akin to Rosa Clara’s signature styles) bring a real contemporary edge, while mermaids are veering more towards fit and flare or trumpet styles, offering a softer, more delicate silhouette that will flatter any figure.

The design team at Justin Alexander were inspired by the ‘different facets’ of the modern woman. “She can be lavish and fashion-forward; timeless and sophisticated; romantic and whimsical; traditional and graceful; playful and flirty.” They have created dynamic gowns for a confident, unique bride, for a bride who wants to stay true to her own style but also wants to feel like a bride on her day.

23 Winter Wedding Dresses that WOW

$
0

While things are very much of the sleek and chic variety in the world of bridal at the moment, we’re getting all romantic and dreamy as we swoon over the ruffles and layers of ultra luxe winter wedding gowns on Pinterest. Like all things beautiful and boho in indie design houses, winter-ready wedding dresses are the signature of many couture houses and we love those coming from Samuelle Couture, Rosa Clara, Lazero and Palles Couture in particular. The trend towards long sleeves (plain or lace), layered and asymmetrical skirts and of course the impossible prettiness that is 3D petals and floral applique has lent itself well to the magical wonderland feel of these gorgeous gúnas and we just can’t get enough of them this season!

To pull off the ultimate winter wedding look, add a pretty cover-up to your attire. We’re head over heels for some of the cute mohair cardies and cosy wool jumpers featured in the new Rembo Styling collection, but those on a budget are sure to find something to suit in our guide to the prettiest faux fur stoles and shawls of the season.

Here are 23 of our favourite winter-ready wedding dresses to really wow.

The Incredible Inmaculada Garcia Barcelona 2017 comes to Ireland!

The incredible Inmaculada Garcia Barcelona is an absolute breath of fresh air to behold. A mix of traditional and avant-garde, the collection truly has something for every style of bride. Modern separates show off the beautiful craftsmanship of the collection – volume is balanced to perfection with puffed out tea length and high-low hemmed skirts paired with cute round neck t-shirt style tops and risque crops covered with sheer and applique overlays. Designer Inmaculada Garcia surmises her offering well herself; “My creations are designed for daring and passionate brides,” she says “brides who are both dreamers and romantics who love feminine and sensual designs with a touch of class.”

There are influences from a number of genres in the 2017 collection, from bohemian, flowing A-lines to couture-like ballgowns, and the odd pop of whimsy and drama is achieved with the use of bold layered tulle skirts and striking floral prints. Classic silhouettes are given a unique edge with fascinating fabrics, fabulous finishing touches and on-trend features like minimal style waist belts, long lace sleeves, sheer backs, billowing bows and some feminine floral applique.

Like what you see? Well you’ll love it even more when we tell you that Inmaculada Garcia has finally hit Irish shores, and has just arrived at their new home in Sharon Hoey Bridal, in Dublin (opposite the Davenport Hotel). The boutique at the forefront of all that is contemporary in bridal has added some stunning designs from the 2017 collection to their rails and we just can’t wait to see them appearing on real Irish brides next year!

Heavenly 70s Style – The Divine Atelier 2017 Collection

$
0
0

Divine Atelier 2017 moves from the light, fairy-tale like couture designs they were known for in the past to a romantic minimalism, with a fresh, modern take on free-spirited Bohemia. Romanian designer Luminita Cosleacara flexes a more delicate designer muscle for this year’s offering, with ultra-feminine, fluid lines made couture with strong, graphic lace and unconventional elements like oversized bell sleeves, sheer high necks and seductive low backs.

A dreamy, 70s vibe is made palpable with the unison of cut and fabric, where the unorthodox idea of ‘bohemian luxe’ really takes form. We find every gown in the collection ultra dreamy – these are dresses for a cosmopolitan bride who is looking to create an effortlessly romantic look for her Big Day. She is enchanting and elegant, deep yet carefree, a mature maverick.

Limor Rosen 2017 Collection – Birds of Paradise

$

Israeli bridal designer Limor Rosen had our hearts a flutter when she launched her magnificent Birds of Paradise collection at New York Bridal Market this year. Without a doubt her most romantic collection to date, Birds of Paradise represents a softer, more bohemian edge to the brand, while still maintaining its signature couture feel. The stand out from Birds for us, has to be the choice of fabrics – delicate lace takes centre stage in most of these gowns, whether through a sultry off-the-shoulder neckline, gorgeous long sleeves, or as a full overlay.

Although these gowns feel quite soft and dainty, there’s a real sharpness to this collection, found in the daring thigh splits, plunging necklines and of course some beautifully bold figure-hugging separates. We’re especially obsessed with the glorious Eve, a contemporary, boho feel lace applique gown with stunning hand beading, the prettiest lace neckline and a fairy-tale blush tulle skirt. Our other pick is the understated Aria, a simple A-line that makes an impact. There’s something so alluring about the beaded tulle and lace hand sewn top, deep V back and neck and the delicate, blush tulle skirt finished with a romantic train – don’t you agree?

Lisa’s dress… I had been creating boards etc. on Pinterest for a few months, and as my best friend and I were getting married just eight weeks apart and were each other’s bridesmaids, there was plenty of chat about dresses etc. Then one day she sent me a pic of dress she thought would really suit me and it was on sale. I had realised it was one I had Pinned a few weeks before. So chatting to my mum I said “oh this sale is on, should we take a look?” Mind you this was a full 18 months before the wedding so it really was just for a look. However, we came, we saw, we conquered! That day it just seemed everything was meant to be, we got parking so easily in Belfast city centre, there was no queue at the doors (we had seen scary pics on their Facebook) I tried on a different one first – just because – then I tried IT on and that was that! We left the shop with my dress under my arm! I absolutely loved it and knew it was just so me!

Miranda’s dress… I wore a gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress called ‘Miela’. I loved it. It had this delicate beading with a vintage flair, but the stiletto and fit of the dress were both very modern.

Rachel’s dress… I always thought I would go for something simple and no fuss with my dress. In fact, it was the total opposite, I just fell in love with it. I purchased my dress from The Bridal Outlet, Baldoyle.

Fionnuala’s dress… I went to Memories Bridal Boutique in Temple Bar with my sister in a terrible mood not expecting to find anything. The woman there was so helpful, she listened to what I liked and didn’t like and picked out a selection of dresses for me. I fell in love with one straight away. It was a fitted lace dress with a sweetheart neckline and tulle straps. I absolutely loved it.

Ruth’s dress… My dress was a Sincerity Dress from The Bridal Outlet in Baldoyle. The girls out there were so helpful and quickly realised what style I was looking for and found me so many gorgeous options that I still don’t know how I made a choice.

Laura’s dress… My dress was from the designer Avenue Diagonal from Bridal by Seven in Newry. Dress shopping was by far one of my favourite things to do and I tried on some gorgeous and not-so-gorgeous dresses. It was so enjoyable having days out with my mam, my aunty and maid of honour to pick dresses. The day I got my dress, I had my mam, my now sister and mother-in-law with me which was very special. I didn’t want something too fitted and not too big either so the A-Line was perfect for me.

Elma’s dress… I always knew I wanted a short dress. I went to Frilly Frocks in Drogheda for my dress as I knew they stocked House of Mooshki. My dress was the ‘Holly’. I had great fun twirling in it on the day!

Laura’s dress… my dress was from The Bridal Corner in Glasnevin. The designer was Enzoani. Perfect in every way! I had a belt fitted to give it that little bit of extra wow. The day I tried it on, I had already been to another shop in which I thought I had found ‘the one’. I remember my bridesmaid Lisa asking if she should call The Bridal Corner to cancel the appointment but I said no because I would feel awful as we were due there within the next hour and I would regret it and wonder ‘what if’. Boy was I glad I went! I tried it on and got THAT feeling! I realised that I had only thought the other dress was the one because of everyone in the shop’s reaction rather than my own. It wasn’t until June that I saw the dress and tried it on again, and I loved it just as much as the first time!

Emily’s dress… my gown was a Stephanie Allin dress called Julia which I got in Myrtle Ivory in Dublin. I saw the dress and instantly I knew I wanted to try it on, once I did I knew there wasn’t going to be another other dress. One thing I wanted was that the dress would ‘transform’ in some way. To achieve this, I wore a Stephanie Allin ‘Tilly’ shrug during the ceremony and reception dinner and then just before the first dance I removed the shrug and wore the dress alone. One of the best aspects of the dress was that it had pockets… so I could carry my lipstick with me for touch ups!

Melissa’s dress… my dress took forever to find! 6 months of trying on dresses, I tried on about 50 dresses, and almost gave up! But I kept coming back to this one image by Grace Loves Lace, a bohemian Australian brand. Nothing compared over here. Eventually my amazing maid of honour found a similar one online in the Love Marley collection by Watters… it was called Penelope. I fell in love with the images and as soon as I saw it for real, I knew it was the one. It was soft, floaty, light, girly, sheer tulle and lace with a cappuccino slip and bohemian feel. My mother-in-law reminds me that 50 dresses later, I bought one that was almost identical to the very first one I tried on, yet so much more perfect for my style… (it was also by Watters and cost £1700 more!)

The 8 Amazing Bridal Trends you NEED to Know for 2017

Following trends is not something anyone really wants to admit to, but when it comes to bridal in 2017 you won’t NOT want to add at least one of these fabulous features to your Big Day Look. From romantic sheer bishop sleeves to sexy separates to stunning statement skirts, this year is taking whimsy and chic and mixing it up to create truly unique and fashion-forward wedding wear.

Like last year, there are trends that are going absolutely nowhere again for 2017 and one unsurprisingly is the statement back. Designers are finding more and more unusual ways to draw attention to the back of the dress, whether through daring cut-out keyholes, intricate embellishments, sheer or lace fabrics or by simply having no back at all! Another trend that shows no signs of letting up is lace, and it’s become even more unusual and statement-making for 2017. And while high Victorian collars have moved to the mainstream, we’re still seeing our fair share of striking plunging necks…

Statement Backs

Backs are where it’s at again this year with pretty statement-making embellishments and plunging V lines the stand-out of the bunch. Carried out beautifully by designers such as Divine Atelier, Viktor & Rolf, Sofie Sarfati and Alexander Grecco – to name a few – the eye-catching back is a trend we hope to see going on in bridal for many years to come.

Romantic Sleeves

We’ve been sleeve enthusiasts for as long as we remember (yep, we said it), and are so excited to see designers getting even more creative with them for 2017. Billowing bell sleeves, lavish lace and stunning sheer peasant and bishop styles make for a really romantic feel to dresses and add a true uniqueness to the bride’s overall look.

Plunging Necklines

It mightn’t be the biggest trend for Irish brides (and certainly not for those opting for a church wedding) but it seems the plunging neckline is going nowhere for 2017 as designers take it to new… well, lows… The plunging neckline is daring, sure, but balanced correctly – or made a bit more subtle with a sheer insert – it can be carried off with elegance and style. Just make sure to invest in some decent tape for the Big Day.

Separates

The style is strong in bridal separates this year, and with beautiful options from designers such as Inmaculada Garcia and Rue de Seine brides are spoiled for choice when it comes to creating a unique look that’s possible to wear even after the Big Day! Pretty tea-length skirts, crop tops, cashmere jumpers or layer upon layer of tulle can be mixed and matched with aplomb by those with an innate sense of style. We love to see brides flexing their fashion muscles on their Big Day, and hope to see even more in 2017!

Off-the-Shoulder

If you’re going for romantic, you’ve officially met your trend of the year. Soft, sexy off-the-shoulder dresses are not the biggest trend of the year by all means, but they are appearing in the collections of some of our favourite designers for 2017. This is an easy trend to wear and works for either formal or boho style brides.

Soft A-Lines

The prettiest silhouette of the year has to be the soft A-line, which is taking over from the structured mermaid and chic column and creating wedding dresses that are all about romance – and comfort! The A-line looks amazing on all shapes and sizes, and can be an absolute dream to wear.

Statement Skirts

On the flip side of the A-line comes the statement skirt. Skirts are appearing in all forms this year, from high-low hemlines to ruffles and tiered tulle, to thigh high splits and detachable overskirts, and making bridal a bit more whimsical in some, and contemporary in others.

Unique Lace

Last but not least is lace – arguably the bridal trend of the year for 2017 – appearing in the most incredible forms throughout collections all over the world. Most designers have included at least one full lace gown in their 2017 offering, with some having lace created especially for their designs.

8 Top Tips to Ensure you Slay on your Big Day

$

Actress Aoibhín Garrihy shares her nuggets of newlywed info ahead of the Ultimate Wedding Planning Event, Weddings to a Tea in Clare, Cork and Kerry this January.

1. It’s just a dress

Bridal Style can be a minefield! The first thing I will say is it’s not “The Dress”…It’s just “A dress”! That may sound controversial but there is a reason I say this. The minute I started to see my wedding dress as “just a dress” was the minute I eliminated stress and pressure from the equation and started to enjoy the process. As a woman who loves style, I’m a firm believer that a wedding dress is just a chapter in a woman’s “fashion story” and not something to fret about.

2. Don’t dive in too soon

Lots of brides get so excited about the dress they choose it before the venue, the date, and the theme. These are all HUGE deciding factors to help tie the whole wedding style together. For example, a castle wedding should inspire a regal romance or a festival wedding a more relaxed boho vibe. Bearing your venue and date in mind will help keep your overall theme on track.

3. Create a mood board

bridal-style-aoibhin-garrihy

This might sound slightly over indulgent (what’s wrong with Pinterest I hear you say) but sometimes it helps to see everything laid out clearly in front of you. Every time you see a picture in a mag, a colour or style, a sleeve, a veil or hair accessory, a neckline or detail that you like, keep it and add it to your mood board. It will help you get a sense of the overall style and theme you’re leaning towards and also helps when you go to the boutique, meet your florist, your hairdresser or other suppliers understand and get a feel for where your head is at!

4. Too many cooks

While your bride tribe are a huge part of your wedding journey, too many opinions can send your head into orbit. Better to choose one person (two max) whose opinion you really trust to be honest with you. However, at the end of the day it’s best to go with your gut… people will think they know but nobody knows like you do. Go with whatever will make your heart sing on the day!

aoibhin-garrihy-bridal-style

5. Don’t be afraid of “The Pippa”

There is nothing more endearing than a bride who lets her bridesmaids shine as brightly as she does (mine also wore white with the same Swarovski encrusted embellishment as my dress) which leads me on to my next tip…

6. Open the lines of communication

bridesmaids-in-white-bridal-style-aoibhin-garrihy

I had a whatsapp group with my bridesmaids and every time we saw a colour, fabric, a shape, shoe, a detail, a bouquet or hairstyle we liked, we shared it with one another and gave the thumbs up or down. That way I knew exactly what they were thinking, what they would feel comfortable in and where to start looking.

7. The rules are there are no rules

bridal-style-no-rules

The bridal parties that stood out for me last year were the ones who made their own rules. Celebrity make up artist Tara O’Farrell had three bridesmaids while her husband had four groomsmen, my mom wore a white trouser suit, I loved when I saw bridesmaids in jumpsuits or brides in blue. They all featured on my mood board and the more adventurous the better. Don’t be afraid to do your own thing, it’s your day.

8. Consider your options

While most will opt for off-the-peg, I would encourage brides to consider all your options. We have some wonderful Irish designers, we have incredible tailors and dress makers, vintage and charity shops, pre-loved and family heirlooms and this could be an opportunity for you to create something totally unique to you or wear a dress with a story for that touch of ‘Je ne sais quoi’!

What the Expert Says:

Bride-to-be and Weddings to a Tea Stylist Holly White…

weddings-to-a-tea-stylist-holly-white

Stylist Holly White

Before you go dress shopping it helps to roughly define the overall style of your day. If your wedding is formal, go all out with tailoring and structure, but if your day is going to be a bit more bohemian, it’s nice to mirror that in your dress and any accessories you may be wearing and your flowers. Having an idea of the overall feel from the outset really helps the decision-making process for everything from invitations, flowers, table settings but most importantly your bridal style

If you’ve just become engaged and you’re not already on the Pinterest buzz yet honestly, we’d recommend staying away – because the sheer number of hours we’ve spent skimming through the stunning images on there is almost criminal! But the good thing about the time we’ve spent browsing through some of the most popular Pins is it means we can curate the best of the best for you here!

The most popular wedding dress on Pinterest is the fabulous Hollie by Grace Loves Lace. It’s since sold out (2000 dresses later) and Grace Loves Lace has retired the style to make way for the Hollie II, an equally beautiful gown that has yet to soar to the heights stat-wise as its predecessor, but a gorgeous gúna we’ve no doubt will be a hit with boho brides all over the world in 2017. Israeli designers such as Berta and Inbal Dror have been a humongous hit on Pinterest pretty much since its inception, with their glamorous, low backed, full trained gowns skimming the bodies of (goddesses) in lookbook images shot in the sun kissed coasts of Italy and the Med. Happily enough however it’s real brides who make up the majority of the most popular bridal posts on Pinterest – and indeed they’re the ones we like to see the most here at weddingsonline! So today we’re sharing a mix of our fave wedding dress images from Pinterest from the designers to the real brides themselves.

The Boho Bride

The boho bride is carefree, romantic, confident and comfortable. Recently bohemian style brides have been hugely catered for with bridal blogs and boutiques shining a light on some incredible indie designers out there who share a love of light-as-air fabrics, dreamy A-lines and to-die-for back details. For 2017 the boho bride can go back to what was the re-emergence of the boho trend, with 70s style gowns popping up in collections like those from Divine Atelier and Jenny Packham, who are introducing some of the most prominent design features from the era into their current bridal designs.

The Classic Bride

Many people are apprehensive about calling themselves ‘classic’ or ‘traditional’ nowadays, but when it comes to weddings, timeless gowns in traditional shapes will always win out. Classic brides look to styles that suit their personality first and the style of their Big Day second and oftentimes the overall style of the day will come directly from the bride’s dress style. Of course there isn’t really a particular silhouette that conforms to ‘traditional’ – although for many it will be the ballgown – which means it’s all about what makes you feel the most comfortable, and the most like the bride you want to be for your day.

We all have a bit of the Magpie in us – sure who could resist those glitzy, eye-catching, intricate embellishments appearing on some of the most beautiful gúnas currently popping up on Pinterest and on blogs for 2017. If you’re a Swarovski fiend, designers such as Anna Campbell and Needle & Thread will be right up your street, with their intricate beading adorning the most sleek and chic silhouettes. Brides with a penchant for bling are absolutely spoiled this year with some of the gorge designs out there, your only trouble will be whittling them down.

The Fashion-forward Bride

Although in general terms fashion has become more subtle, streamlined, chic and… well let’s just say Scandi and get it out of the way… there are those guys and gals looking to push the boat out for bridal fashion and make entirely new silhouettes a ‘norm’. Pantsuits, jumpsuits, GoT style capes and cutouts are the fashion-forward bride’s forte, and we are in love with the look. It takes some confidence to stand out from the crowd but sure if 2017 isn’t the year to do it we don’t know when will be.

The City Bride

We must preface this by saying city brides are obviously no different to those getting married in the ‘burbs or countryside. Now that that’s out of the way we also have to say that the idea of a city bride does conjure some style ideas, which are namely for us; separates, tea lengths, pantsuits and shorter cocktail dresses. This year the separates reign, with midriff-baring tees and pencil skirts just ticking all sorts of chic boxes. Best thing about this look? You can probably get it for a pinch on the high street, and wear it again and again and again and again…

The Fine Art Bride

We sound a little naff when we refer to the ‘fine art bride‘ but believe us it’s a thing! The fine art bride is all about soft shades (anything off-white will do), light as air fabrics and apparently just wind blowing around her all the time (at least when a camera is pointed at her anyway). For a fine art bride we love Alexandra Grecco, Samuelle Couture, Pronovias, possibly Mira Zwillinger and old Vera Wang, who do (did) some stunning soft yet big impact gowns that photograph amazingly.

The Daring Bride

It’s fair to say the daring bride is getting all the attention when it comes to bridal collections at the moment. Plunging necklines, cut-outs, revealing separates, mind-mindbogglingly low backs… the list of risqúe features goes on. The major concentration of daring designers at the moment is in Israel, where Inbal Dror, Berta, Gahlia Lahav and Lihi Hod are currently holding the fort but we think we’ll be seeing plenty more up and coming designers willing to challenge bridal traditions with sensual silhouettes and daring features over the next year.

The Couture Bride

Got expensive taste no matter how much you try to repress it? These designers are for you. Rosa Clara, Viktor & Rolf, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera the list goes on (as the budget dwindles!) Couture brides are fans of the timeless; structured silhouettes, subtle features and perfectly tailored clean lines but this year designers are adding a little extra to their chic shapes in the form of bows and beading. We love the long sleeves and high necks on 2017’s crop of couture gowns and can’t wait to see them popping up in real weddings soon.

The Contemporary Bride

We were going to say ‘hipster’ bride for this one but settled on cool and contemporary after much debate! As we mentioned already, separates are big in bridal again this year, and designers nailing them include Sanyukta Shtrestha, Laure de Sagazan and Sarah Seven have nailed theirs, but it’s not all skirts and tees for modern brides this year. Cool, contemporary wear is also all about that muted, conservative feel from high neck, long sleeved lace gowns which are very much the dress style of the moment. For this style, look to designers such as Needle & Thread, Temperley, Suzanne Harward and Houghton Bridal for a start.

The Top French Bridal Designers to Watch out for in 2017

Having covered some of our top UK and Irish bridal designers to watch out for this year in our latest fashion feature, we now move further away and across the English Channel to seek out our favourite French designers for 2017. Last year we brought you the minimal, romantic collections from designers such as Sophie Sarfati, Elise Hameau, Laure de Sagazan and Fabienne Alagama, and while we touch on them again in this year’s Ones to Watch, we’ve found even more incredible designers to add to the list of talent.

A little disclaimer before you enter the world of wonderful French designers however – a lot of those featured are not currently stocked in Ireland – in fact the closest place to get your hands on most is London – but we hope some of our fabulous bridal boutiques will pick one or two of the designers up in the future! But for now, we swoon. We swoon for the long flowing sleeves, the dreamy fabrics, the floor skimming skirts and trains. We swoon for the intricate back details, the impossibly beautiful laces, the elegant cutouts. And we swoon for the lookbooks, the photos that could only grace the websites of French designers; the grainy, impossibly romantic images that show us just how fabulous the French really are…

French Bridal Designers

Donatelle Godart

Don’t let the grainy images fool you, Donatelle Godart‘s dresses are as crisp as a spring morning, and just as refreshing. The DG bridal line is inspired by the feisty, carefree, confident style of 70s icons like Jane Birkin, completely in-keeping with the trends we’re seeing making their way from every corner of the globe for 2017. Gowns are light and whispy, with long, flowing sleeves, deep V necklines and backs and beautiful laces adding a real romance to each piece. We’re head over heels for these, guys, and are seriously hoping to see them appearing on the Emerald Isle very soon.

Celestina Agostino

A more couture take on Parisian style are the mesmerising creations coming out of the house of Celestina Agostino. Celestina is by no means new to the fashion industry, having cut her teeth in the world of costume design over 20 years ago and enjoyed a career in high fashion since, but it’s her refined, whimsical, perfectly tailored bridal designs that are gaining a massive following worldwide. Unique silhouettes, the theatrical layering of fabrics and dramatic, statement-making features are on one side of her wide range of styles, while the other side is all about a soft, streamlined look filled with the finest laces and delicate embellishments.

Mademoiselle de Guise

Mademoiselle de Guise doesn’t make it easy to get hold of their information, let alone their designs, but we thought these gowns, with their beautifully crafted feature backs, deserved a mention. Soft and playful, yet sophisticated and structured, the 2017 Mademoiselle collection balances the stylish, elegant, effortless bride perfectly – and did we mention those backs?! Let’s just say this is one designer destined for Pinteresting things in 2017.

LoraFolk

Lorafolk is a Parisian designer with a distinct hint of English Rose in her creations. Part fashion-forward, part folklore, the range delicately balances understated silhouettes with intricate, beautifully detailed luxurious laces (such as Calais lace), and ensures it’s the bride’s natural beauty that shines through, complementing it with every cut and flow. These minimal designers are looking like the way forward for bridal, and it’s French designers such as Lorafolk who are paving the way for them in 2017.

Elise Hameau

Paris-based Elise is inspired by the fashion of the 20s and 70s and combines these classic silhouettes with the most beautiful French lace and stunning art deco style detailing to create gowns that exude personality and style. To find out more about Elise Hameau see our past feature here.

Laure de Sagazan

Laure de Sagazan’s bridal collections exude sophisticated, old world glamour with just a little bit of playful zest in the form of luxurious lace cap sleeves and pretty laser cut cover ups. To find out more about Laure, check out our feature here.

Rime Arodaky

Wedding enthusiasts know her from her cult wedding blog La Love List, but Parisienne Rime Arodaky is about to become world renowned as a modern bridal designer in her own right. Find out more about Rime here.

4 Incredible Israeli Bridal Designers to Watch in 2017

As you’re probably already well aware from the Pinterest shares, Insta posts and general furor on pretty much every wedding blog from all corners of the world, Israeli bridal designers are where it’s at these days, no messing around. From the lookbooks of the sensuous, daring and if we must admit a little risqué Berta and Inbal Dror, to the contemporary silhouettes and pretty embellishments of Lihi Hod and Limor Rosen, to the fashion-forward, out-and-out opulence of Mira Zwillinger, Israeli design is no longer just about heavy beading, low backs and trains that go on for days… in fact it’s quickly becoming known for a wide-ranging variety of high quality, high couture, lusted-after gowns for almost any bridal style. Today we’re taking a look at some of the most exciting designers to come out of Israel for 2017, including the absolute swoon-worthy Liz Martinez – a designer we hope to be seeing a LOT more of over the coming years…

Bridal Designers to Watch Series

So far this year we’ve covered some of our top UK and Irish bridal designers and of course our top wedding dress designers working out of the French capital to watch out for, and next week we’ll be featuring some of our favourite new designers to come out of Australia and the US, so make sure to stay tuned to the weddingsonline blog!

Israeli Designers

Chana Marelus

‘Conservative glamour’ isn’t something that we tend to look for in a wedding dress, but when you think about it – isn’t it the balance most brides are striving for on their Big Day? And if you count yourself as one of these on-the-ball brides, Tel-Aviv based designer Chana Marelus is our gift-of-inspiration to you. Part princess, part badass, a Chana Marelus gown is all about the contemporary woman who wants to play the ultimate part on her Big Day. Now we’re not going to say she can do this on a budget (unless her wedding dress budget is €7K), but we are saying she can stall the wedding for a couple of years until something second hand comes available, perhaps?

Alon Livne

Former Project Runway winner Alon Livne made quite the splash worldwide when he launched his debut collection of bold, futuristic, gravity-defying occasionwear back in 2013. Within months he became a go-to designer for mega-divas Beyonce and Lady Gaga and in 2014 broke into bridal with a range of ultra glam and ultra innovative wedding gowns. Luxurious, form-fitting designs are the focal point of Alon Livne’s collections, are guaranteed to wow and be beyond a joy to wear.

Lee Petra Grebenau

Glamour, and lots of it is the order of the day at one of Israel’s most exciting design houses; Lee Petra Grebenau. Plunging necklines, elegant long sleeves, stunning mermaid silhouettes and more sparkle than you could shake a Swarovski crystal at make up the main features of an ultra-luxe Lee gown, and we’re simply full of the swoons of May for each one (is that a phrase? It definitely should be a phrase…) Using the finest French laces and finished with meticulous tailorship, these gowns are simply a work of art.

Liz Martinez

And finally to a couturier who set our hearts completely aflutter last year, Liz Martinez is a young French-Israeli bridal designer who went from dressmaking in the corner of a room in her mother’s apartment outside of Tel Aviv to completely shaking up the world of weddings in just a couple of years. She has been referred to as the ‘Cinderella’ of Israeli bridal designers, and is admired for her passion and politics (as a vocal supporter of young girls and women) as well as her superior craftsmanship and innovative designs. We’re beyond obsessed with Liz’s fresh bridal designs here at weddingsonline – in fact she may just be our international designer of the year?!

5 Awesome Australian Bridal Designers to Watch in 2017

We’ve covered Ireland, the UK, France and Israel and now we’re flying even further afield to find out who’s who in Aussie bridal for 2017. Australian bridal designers are some of the most prominent in the wedding industry at the moment, and if you’re a fan of the elegant, romantic and heavily embellished you’ve probably already come across one or two. The Aussie couturier who has made the biggest impact lately is probably Anna Campbell, whose designs – with their glistening hand-beading, opulently embellished backs and dripping diamonds and pearly details – are as photography-friendly as they come, giving them high priority on the Pinterests and Instas of the world.

This year we’re looking at the more pared-back designs from others on the continent, with some you may already be familiar with (Bo + Luca being a favourite of boho-loving bridal blogs everywhere) and some we can’t wait to get more acquainted with ourselves.

Australian

Bo + Luca

Designer Shannon Pittman brings her passion for travel and love of all things romantic and bohemian to Bo + Luca, a brand with nostalgia and luxe 70s-inspired aesthetics at its heart. Bo + Luca gowns are designed and hand-cut in Australia, created with soft, light fabrics that allow for a natural, feminine, comfortable silhouette. Woven metallic threads, sequins and crystals then add a distinctive edge to cuffs, bodices and waistbands.

One Day Bridal

If it’s out-and-out wow you’re looking for in a wedding dress, One Day Bridal has it in spades. Sexy, feminine, fashion-forward, luxurious gowns are the mainstay of designer Kyha, who created the brand when she struggled to find ‘the one’ for her own wedding and wanted to provide her own take on bridal for other women with similar tastes. Silhouettes vary from form-fitting sheaths to soft and floaty A-lines but always add some extra drama through full trains, billowing sleeves, deep V-necks and barely-there-backs.

Suzanne Harward

One of the most exciting Aussie designers for us this year has to be the supreme Suzanne Harward, whose luxurious lace gowns are the epitome of modern day princess. Long sleeves, high necklines and spectacular overlays are the standout features of Suzanne Harward’s stunning 2017 collection, where conservative glamour is the order of the day. A hint of folklore is present throughout the collection, with pretty puffed sleeves and ruffle collars making a real statement and adding something truly unique to modern bridal wear.

Georgia Young

Aussie designer Georgia Young creates couture gowns for brides looking for something completely unique for their Big Day. Gravity, the 2017 collection, however is a move back to ‘vibrant simplicity’, where simple yet striking silhouettes are made the feature of every gown through the use of luxurious fabrics and a light hand on embellishments. Designed and handmade in Melbourne, Georgia Young Couture gowns are known as “bridal couture for the fashion conscious bride”.

Elvi Design

The soft, romantic gowns of Perth-based bridal label Elvi Design are an absolute dream, and the perfect balance between elegant and sexy. Luxurious laces and sensual silks abound and in their newest collection, Emergence, these fabrics are used in innovative ways to create dresses that allow for a series of different looks. From detachable overlay skirts to removable lace beaded tops, these gowns are ideal for brides looking for two looks in one on their Big Day. We love Elvi’s beautiful accessories, which will no doubt have them on lots of brides’ radars for 2017.

15 Fabulously Romantic Wedding Dresses to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day and although we like to think ourselves totally over the expensive bunches of roses and sparkly cards, we can’t help but come over a little extra romantic on February 14th. So today for our fashion feature we’ve taken the theme of ‘romance’ and interpreted it all sorts of ways to put together a stunning edit of some of our favourite wedding dresses for 2017!

‘Romance’ can obviously mean just about anything in a wedding dress, but for us it usually entails soft, flowing silhouettes, beautiful light fabrics, classic lines, sensuous embellishments and usually something a little flowery to top it all off (I mean we’re only human). For designers for 2017, we’re looking to the French, and to Elise Hameau and Celestina Agostino who do romance oh-so-well. We’re also looking at our Spanish designers who have nailed that effortless, youthful, bohemian romance we all hope we’ll have in our own hearts for eternity. Wherever they’re from, the gowns in today’s edit make us come over all butterflies and wheat fields, sexy breakfasts in beds and picnics in the park and just generally feeling all sorts of lovely. We hope you love them too!
