Halfpenny London 2016 Collection ‘Flora Romance’

$

We’re kicking off 2016 with some serious style and a collection from one of Britain’s most exciting bridal designers; Kate Halfpenny’s Halfpenny London. Boldly ‘Brit cool’ and delicately vintage-inspired in equal measures, Halfpenny London’s breathtaking 2016 collection Flora Romance weaves contemporary embellishments with flapper style silhouettes, resulting in something wholly romantic and thoroughly unique. Subtlety and nuance are the key to this collection, with simple silk crepe sheaths emboldened by daring details such as feather cap sleeves, glorious gold embroidery and flourishes of pretty French lace. The other key to this collection is separates that’d make your heart skip a beat; modest silk corsets, tees and slips paired with the most striking skirts of feather, tulle with godets and puddle trains (the train of the year, as far as we’re concerned) and topped off with sumptuous French lace jackets and cover ups.

This is truly a collection for romantic yet sophisticated brides with an innate sense of style and confidence. Every dress is perfect for a bride who values luxurious comfort and knows how to dress to suit her shape, shying away from what’s either traditional or on-trend and going towards a dress that makes her feel like herself at her absolute best! As you can probably tell we’re in love with every dress in the Halfpenny London 2016 collection, so much so that it broke our hearts to have to edit it down so promise us (PROMISE US!) you’ll head over to halfpennylondon.com to see the full collection in all its glory, and will let us know what you think of it below!

Lihi Hod Wedding Dresses – 2016 White Bohemian Collection

As most of our regular readers will know, we just cannot get enough of the stunning creations coming out of the bridal design houses in Israel, and it seems year by year they’re getting more and more spectacular. Last year Lihi Hod captivated brides all over the world with the breathtaking Film Noir in White, an epic collection of glamorous gowns displaying Lihi Hod’s signature silhouettes and fabrics. If Film Noir established the Galliano-grad as the best bridal designer in her own country, her 2016 collection White Bohemian cements Lihi Hod as one of the bridal industry’s foremost trend-setters.

Featuring a host of Hod’s trademark features; low backs, intricate beading, translucent fabrics and sensual silhouettes, White Bohemian stretches the bridal boundaries and celebrates the female form. With necklines that admittedly might make your grandma blush, this collection isn’t for the more traditional of brides, yet the expert draping, high quality luxurious fabrics and balancing volume creates an elegance, a romance and a timelessness in each of the pieces.

Long, luxurious lace sleeves, glamorous full beading and romantic off-the-shoulder styles combine to create a unique collection of gowns that epitomise all that is fun and feminine in contemporary bridal. Lihi Hod gets playful with crop tops, pocket skirts and shoulder details in the more cool and laid back gowns (perfect for beach brides, we must say) but goes for high couture in her more ‘traditional’ styles, with dresses that command attention and draw you in to a world of romance with meticulous details.

Charlie Brear Wedding Dresses 2016 Collection

In 2015, most of us found ourselves swept up in the somewhat unwarranted collective enthusiasm for 70s fashion that took over the high street. Flared jumpsuits, double denim, suede coats, boho maxis and psychedelic prints… 70s throwbacks came thick and fast, and to be fair at times would have been better left in the past! But unlike the rest of us who were swayed by the rather tricky trend, English stylist and designer Charlie Brear was already well-versed with the silhouettes and styles that defined the decade of boho-chic.

As a stylist in the early 00s, Charlie Brear was greatly influenced by vintage aesthetics and after having to source a selection of period wedding dresses for a shoot with some difficulty, she set out to create what became known as The Vintage Wedding Dress Company. Since her first capsule collection in 2005, Charlie has been honing her vintage-inspired design and retro-influenced styling skills, skills that have today resulted in a bridal collection that showcases the best of the silhouettes and details from decades gone by.

For 2016, shirt collar dresses, drop waist skirts, capelets, jumpsuits and a host of unique styling pieces work together to form a collection of evocatively feminine gowns that are made unique with Charlie Brear’s meticulous tailoring. Using an eclectic mix of hand selected fabrics, Charlie takes influence from the most beautiful aspects of retro style and brings them right up to date with fabulous cuts and layering. Brides can create a truly bespoke look with the addition of one or more of the stunning separates such as tiered skirts, silk shirts, crochet capelets and lace overlays. This is a collection for those with a penchant for the past and an innate sense of style, boho brides who want to feel completely comfortable yet tailored to perfection.

The Wedding Trends you Need to Know for 2016 – Part 1

Oversized bouquets, board games, fine food and the end of the unplugged wedding – it’s our top wedding trends for 2016!

Focus on Food

wedding-trends-2016-food-foodie-evening

It’s safe to say that in the last few years we Irish have become a nation of hardcore foodies. We know our prosciutto from our serrano, our quinoa from our cous cous and our definition of success is a rich and varied spice rack. Truth is, nobody is getting away with a mediocre wedding dinner anymore – gone are the days of the below average meat and two veg, this is the dawning of the age of the gourmet wedding breakfast. Venues know this too thankfully and are creating some of the most exciting menus to impress guests who are expecting fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a plate with pizazz. Of course it’s not just the wedding meal itself, a huge amount of couples will be opting to have speciality food throughout the wedding celebration whether it’s crepes or ice cream after the ceremony, pizza or chipper in the evening, or a well-catered day after buffet with rotisserie chicken or a pig spit. It all sounds good to us anyway!

Huge Blooms

wedding-trends-20162

Oversized bouquets started filtering in to weddings in 2014 as brides began to notice that blooms are better when they’re bigger! We think this trend is only going to get more popular this year as brides try to bring a huge pop of colour to their look with a big statement bouquet. Oversized bouquets work particularly well with the understated boho style gowns that are so popular for 2016, and give them great balance and energy. Whether it’s wildflowers, a mix of peonies and roses or a cool cascade of greens, anything goes with this trend.

First-Look Photos

first-look-wedding-photo-father-bride

Unlike our American counterparts, we might not be ready just yet for the pre-ceremony first look photo, but that’s not to say we can’t have our own versions! One of the photos at the top of the list lately for photographers is capturing that moment when the father and/or mother of the bride first see her in her finery. For those lucky enough to have their parents around for their Big Day it will be a memory to treasure forever – so make sure your pro photog is around to snap it!

Bringing out your Inner Nerd

wedding-trends-2016_star_wars

Nowadays the nerd is king and everywhere you look people are embracing their inner ‘geek’. Of course with Star Wars making a rather stellar comeback over the Christmas, huge fans of the franchise are finding it easier to get their hands on cool items to add to their wedding getup. But it’s not just about Sci-fi and movies, mostly it’s about sharing what you love. Whether you’re a film buff, a plane spotter, a stamp collector or a jigsaw enthusiast, this is the year to include the other loves of your life in your Big Day and to get creative in inviting your guests to experience them too.

Board Games at the Table, Lawn Games Outdoors

Wedding-entertainment-ideas-board-games-lawn-guests

Another trend wedding guests will be welcoming with open arms and a competitive spirit is the addition of awesome board games to the table! This year we think guests will be spending the post-ceremony, pre-drinks reception hour mingling with each other over a game of giant Jenga or Connect 4, and when they’re not on the dance floor, indulging in a bit of nostalgia with a game of Guess Who. What’s not to love?!

Photos, Photos Everywhere

wedding-trends-20163

Photos are a great way to give guests an insight into your life and personality and this year couples will be using them in all sorts of ways to share their memories and loves. Photos of friends and family dotted around the venue, slideshows during the meal, photo booths in the evening, it’s fair to say weddings will be photo heavy for 2016. Polaroids in particular have made a huge impact over the last few years and couples are looking everywhere to add this retro look to their decor – and if they can’t get their hands on a camera/film, are opting for the Instax alternative.

Social Media Embrace

wedding-trends-2016-social-media-instagram

You can’t fight city hall, and short of prying them out of white knuckles and hiding them in a bowl (a la Mike’s wedding in VEEP), you can’t fight your wedding guests’ urges to take and post phone pics. So instead of the passive aggressive ‘this is an unplugged wedding’ signs, it seems this year couples are coming to embrace all things social media. But hold your horses, that doesn’t mean a mass Facebook upload of wedding vow vids before the couple has even settled their nerves, it means finding out the personalised hashtag and making sure you’re posting to their preferred site, of course. Couples are also looking to specialised apps to get the most from their Big Day with the help of guests like with a ‘social wedding movie’ compiled by guests from all different aspects – if this sounds like fun to you make sure to check out the awesome movie app ShotClip.

Ronald Joyce’s Victoria Jane 2016 Wedding Dress Collection

Classic and elegant, Victoria Jane for Ronald Joyce is a collection for brides looking to feel like true modern princesses on their Big Day. There’s something to flatter every figure in Victoria Jane’s sophisticated range of soft-yet-structured silhouettes, where A-line gowns dominate yet a chic bias cut is given just as much attention. These styles are classic for a reason of course, they’re flattering, feminine and they work for any shape or size. That’s not to say that everything about these gowns is a tried and tested tradition however and modern, fashion-forward ladies will find something to suit their tastes too in delicate lace embellishments, lavish long sleeves, sheer necklines and striking scooped and illusion backs.

Through the use of crossed chiffon ruching, heavy beaded waistbands, elegant draping and soft sheer overlays, designer Veni Infantino displays her innate understanding of what makes a wedding dress work on a woman, and indeed it is the fit of these gowns that really gives them their magic. Paired with the use of the finest fabrics and a meticulous attention to detail in embellishments such as unique lace applique, delicately beaded flourishes and couture-like finishes, dresses with an incredible fit and serious sparkle are born.

Top Wedding Trends 2016 Part 2

Part two of our top wedding trends 2016 covers chic copper details, stunning stationery, cute cake toppers and some of the most beautiful wedding dress trends you’re bound to see all year!

Copper Details

wedding-trends-2016_copper_details_decor

Metallics will be huge again in wedding decor this year and one metallic in particular we think we’ll be seeing more of is gorgeous copper. Copper has become a huge trend in kitchenware lately but it’s not just the table decor that will be getting a touch of bling; stationery, shoes… brides will be adding this muted metallic throughout their wedding to give it an elegant and modern feel.

Serenity & Rose Quartz

wedding-colour-trends-2016-serenity-rose-quartz

The Pantone colours of the year will no doubt be making an appearance in wedding themes throughout 2016. Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue may sound a little fancy but what we’re basically talking about is baby blue and pink. This rose pink is an easy peasy colour to base your wedding on and you’ll find it just about everywhere from stationery to decor to dresses. Blue on the other hand can be a bit trickier to pull off and many will try it with bridesmaids dresses but approach with caution and make sure it really suits your girls’ skin tones before you buy!

Embellished Neck & Shoulder Jewellery

wedding-trends-2016-dress-shoulder-jewelry

The back was getting all the attention in 2014/15 but alas we’ve moved on. Not by much though! Instead of heading down the daring route of dangerously low backs, designers are opting instead to decorate their gowns with stunning sparkling neck and shoulder details. From Justin Alexander to Pronovias, Marchesa to Queen-of-the-wedding-dress-bling Anna Campbell, we’re seeing some gorgeous details emerging. Those opting to go strapless can get in on the action too – gorgeous shoulder jewellery and beaded boleros are becoming hugely popular for brides looking for some extra bling on their day. Look to Etsy and Power Blue Bijoux for gorgeous shoulder jewellery and designers like Hayley Paige for beautiful beaded boleros and accessories.

Mix & Match Separates

wedding-trends-2016-dress-separates

Another wedding dress trend that has been gaining in popularity over the years is separates. Separates are great for brides hoping to create a truly unique look that reflects their own modern style. More and more designers are adding fabulous pieces to their collection as a result – check out Charlie Brear’s tiered skirts and slip tops, the pretty tea length tulles and crew neck sweaters at Jenny Yoo and you’ll see how for 2016 gorgeous wedding dress separates are taking up where the one piece has left off.

Font as Design Feature

wedding-invitation-trends-2016-rose-quartz-metallic-font

Wedding invites can be a really difficult thing to choose, after all they are the first thing your guests will see of your wedding and often can set the tone of the day. This may be why the trend this year is to go towards a more minimalist look overall where font is the design feature. Whether it’s ultra modern or romantic calligraphy, a beautiful font can be the perfect design for any invite – we love Kerry Harvey’s All that Glitters suite which pairs a beautiful gold glitter calligraphy font with romantic blush tones.

Image: Stationery All that Glitters Suite by Kerry Harvey Designs

Calligraphy Cake Toppers

wedding-cake-trends-2016-calligraphy-toppers-words

Another place we’ll be seeing font as a feature is on cakes! Cake toppers have come a long way in recent years and can be traditional, humorous, elegant and sometimes admittedly very twee. The calligraphy cake topper is a trend we can really get on board with, looking super modern and bringing in the metallic look that’s also hugely popular this year. It’s also a lovely way to add some personal words and makes a great keepsake! Check Etsy and Not on the High Street for personalised script toppers, or make your own with this great DIY project!

Very Vintage Engagement Rings

wedding-trends-2016-vintage-coloured-engagement-rings

It’s fair to say that engagement rings are becoming more and more unusual as brides and grooms are searching far and wide for something really unique that suits their personal style. Vintage style rings are one of the biggest trends in settings this year, with couples opting for rose gold and more detailed features than ever before. For the main feature, many brides-to-be are mixing it up with colour gemstones – pink morganite, green emerald and tourmaline, ruby garnet – and creating something truly different.

From full flowing lace to floral appliqués and convertible skirts to cascading hemlines, wedding dress trends for 2016 are timeless, romantic and impossibly fun all at once. While we don’t want to panic those dressless few who plan to tie the knot this summer, it’s time to get your proverbial skates on and commit to The (other) One very soon! So with those ladies in mind, we’ve scoured the catwalks and indeed our own guides to the best bridal collections of 2016 and found not only the most beautiful, but the most wearable wedding dress trends of 2016. We hope you find something that truly inspires you here guys, and if you don’t manage to (surely not!), make sure to come back for part two tomorrow!

wedding-dress-trends-2016-floral-applique-weddingsonline

3D Floral Applique

Decorative floral applique is simply everywhere this year, and there’s not a designer that comes to mind who hasn’t featured the romantic, delicate design somewhere in their collection. Prominent at Angel Sanchez, Claire Pettibone, Berta (left) and a signature style in Alexandra Grecco’s 2016 collection (right), this pretty embellishment is perfect for boho ladies who also consider themselves quite girly!

wedding-dress-trends-2016-lace

Delicate Lace

It seems like a strange thing to consider a ‘trend’ perhaps, but as fashion tends towards chiffon and tulle for Spring/Summer, lace still retains a hold as the fine fabric of choice for many couture and indie designers alike. Soft scalloped lace necklines, full long lace sleeves and head-to-toe fit and flares are timeless and elegant, and provide the couture feel every bride craves for their wedding dress. YolanCris (top left), Halfpenny London, Temperley, Ines di Santo (top right), Sareh Nouri (middle left), Monique Lhuillier (middle right), Oscar de la Renta (bottom left) and Cabotine (bottom right) are just some of the designers to heavily feature lace in their collections for 2016.

wedding-dress-trends-2016-overlay-skirt-tulle

Overlay Skirts

For those brides hoping to sport two amazing looks on their Big Day but lacking the budget to do so, we bring you the convertible skirt. A detachable skirt allows brides to wow in a seemingly traditional style ballgown dress during the day time, only to whip it off after the meal – and props if you manage to do so in an homage to Bucks Fizz’ 1981 Eurovision winning number – to reveal something a lot slinkier, and way more fun to dance in. As seen at Monique Lhuillier (left), Naeem Khan (centre), and Inbal Dror (right).

wedding-dress-trends-2016-high-low-hemline

High Low Hem

The high-low hemline was big in 2013, took a back seat for the LWD in ’14 and ’15 and has burst onto to bridal catwalk again to challenge traditions and give brides an option to add some rock and roll to their look. We loved this look on Whitney Port last year, who wore a floral appliqué Ashi Studio graduated hem with all the grace and glamour we expect from the cool fashionista. As seen at Inbal Dror (top left), Ines di Santo (top right), Monique Lhuillier (bottom left) and Sarah Seven (bottom right).

Statement Back

Oh statement back wedding dresses, is there any dress you can’t make look a million times better?! Statement backs have been gracing the aisle since the mid 2000s and are getting more elaborate and unusual as the years go by. They will be the focal point of many gowns again this year, with designers such as Naeem Khan (top left), Reem Acra (top right, bottom left) and Monique Lhuillier (bottom right) embracing the trend fully and giving brides something to swoon over.

wedding-trends-2016-dress-shoulder-jewelry

Shoulder Jewellery

Shoulder jewellery is one of our favourite overall trends of the year. This trend combines everything from beaded capes, statement necklaces and dresses with that extra bit of Grecian-esque bling, which add something really special to just about any dress they adorn. This trend is ideal for brides who like the idea of an unfussy gown but want the option to add something sparkly for photos. This is one trend certainly worth the investment – not only would you not believe how different these can make your dress look (two looks for one) but you’ll most definitely be adding them to all your regular gunas after!

Illusion Bodice

Admittedly a tough trend to carry off and perhaps not one for those planning to spend too much time in front of their Parish Priest, the illusion bodice has none the less become one of this year’s biggest trends in bridal. With designers such as Mira Zwillinger (pictured), Lihi Hod, Monique Lhuillier (who pretty much covered every trend of the year in her collection) and Hayley Paige completely embracing the trend and pairing it with other biggies like convertible skirts and floral appliqués, this is one trend we can’t wait to see on some real brides in 2016!

wedding-dress-trends-2016-full-medieval-cape

The Cape

Now, this is a Wow trend if ever we did see one. The caped wedding dress is one of the more unusual trends to emerge for 2016 and needs a woman with a boat load of confidence and a decent bit of height to really carry it off (Google Solange Knowles’ 2014 wedding to see how it’s done). Seen at Ralph & Russo (top left & bottom right, the latter being an incredible Solange-inspired jumpsuit/cape combo), Pronovias (top right), Sareh Nouri and Jenny Packham (bottom left), the cape demands attention and is a trend we’re hoping to see some super stylish Irish brides embrace in 2016.

wedding-dress-trends-2016-thigh-high-split

Thigh High Slit

The leg-baring dress may have gotten a bad rap for the unfortunate Angelina Jolie Right Leg Oscars Meme in 2012, but one area that’s embracing it with everything it’s got is the bridal market. Seen at Monique Lhuillier (left), Berta, Inbal Dror (right), Mira Zwillinger and Jim Hjelm, this is one sexy style perfect for a beach celebration or a seriously chic city soiree.

wedding-dress-trends-2016-separates-weddingsonline

Separates

If you’re already well into your wedding dresscapades, chances are you’ve dabbled in a couple of separates as you search for something really unique. Before, bridal separates were seen as cool, casual alternatives to traditional dresses, however this year designers such as Watters are pushing the boat out with stunning ballgown skirts and corsets to give brides more choice when it comes to recreating a classic look. If you fancy flexing your style muscles and giving separates a go, look to BHLDN, Halfpenny London (left), Sarah Seven (centre) or Rime Arodaky (right).

wedding-dress-trends-2016-capped-sleeves

Capped Sleeves

Getting our vote for prettiest trend of 2016 has to be the band of beautiful lace capped sleeves at Pronovias, Sincerity Bridal (top left), Halfpenny London (top right), Sarah Seven (bottom left), Lela Rose, Stephanie Allin, Marchesa (bottom right) et al. The dainty lace capped sleeve is a wonderful thing, giving brides the option to cover up their shoulders with delicate lace without pinching the skin.

wedding-dress-trends-2016-jumpsuits

Jumpsuit

One trend we are really hoping Irish brides will get on board with this year is the super chic 70s inspired jumpsuit. Seen at Mark Zunino (left), Angel Sanchez (centre), THEIA, Houghton and Anna Kara (right), the jumpsuit is a fab alternative for brides not into the big white dress thing but who want to still look the part on their Big Day!

wedding-dress-trends-2016-off-the-shoulder

Off the Shoulder

Girls who favour a Grecian style dress are going to love the glamorous off the shoulder trend that has come to the fore this year. Designers such as Rivini (top left), Rosa Clara, J Mendel (top right), Halfpenny London (bottom left) and Marchesa (bottom right) have fully embraced the sexy shoulder and created some of this year’s most stunning statement dresses, perfect for the bride looking for something a little off-tradition for her Big Day.

best-bridal-trends-2016-traditional

Return to Tradition

Alas, brides with a penchant for all things classic needn’t fear the year of trends as, thankfully tradition prevails in many of the top bridal designers collections this year. Ballgowns, soft mermaid styles, lace and long sleeves (it’s more of a staple than a trend now, surely) all feature heavily among the biggest design houses, meaning you can still look and feel like the quintessential bride this year, while still being bang on trend. Seen at Oscar de la Renta, Stephanie Allin (top left), Ines di Santo (top right), Pronovias (bottom left) and Watters (bottom right).

Shoulder jewellery is the newest way to create a unique look for your wedding day, by draping a beautiful piece of statement shoulder jewellery over a simple strapless wedding dress and making it look and feel extra glam. From chic and contemporary copper chains to more elaborate crystal encrusted lace applique ‘boleros’, shoulder jewellery comes in an array of styles and is a great way to create two looks in one. Best Celebrity Wedding Dresses of 2015

While there weren’t a huge amount of celebs tying the knot this year (compared to last year’s bumper crop of familiar fashionistas anyway) there were some incredible celebrity wedding dresses on the aisle none the less. From Sophia Vergara’s incredible Zuhair Murad that was utter perfection to socialite Nicky Hilton’s regal Valentino there was no short of style from the ‘slebs.

Of course we had a couple of Big Days from A-listers that we’re sure were spectacular, but keeping it classy have been kept under wraps thus far; Jennifer Aniston married beau Justin Theroux in their Bel Air home in August in a day cunningly disguised as a birthday celebration, Mila Kunas and Ashton Kutcher wed in secret during the summer and the beautiful Amy Adams married her long term fiancé (they were engaged for seven years) in an intimate wedding in early May. So without further adieu, we present our pick of the most beautiful celebrity dresses we’ve seen in 2015.

Allison_Williams_Wedding_Dress_Oscar_de_la_Renta

Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta

Girls actress Allison Williams married her long term love Ricky Van Veen in the quintessential American ranch wedding in Wyoming in one of our favourite gowns of the year. The bride’s stunning Oscar de la Renta was classy and modern, the traditional ballgown silhouette brought up to date with the most unusual lace and a fabulous sheer neckline. Oh, and the ceremony was officiated by Tom Hanks btw. NBD. Utter perfection.

Nicky_Hilton_Wedding_Dress_Valentino_Celebrity_2015

Nicky Hilton in Valentino Couture

Whatever you feel about the hotel heiress and socialite, you have to agree Nicky Hilton looked every inch the modern princess when she married banking heir James Rothschild in Valentino Couture. Nicky’s full lace dress was reminiscent of Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton’s bridal gowns, featuring a beautiful full train, long lace sleeves, a high neckline and finished with a dreamy lace-trimmed veil.

whitney-port-wedding-dress

Whitney Port in ASHISTUDIO

The stunning Whitney Port seriously pushed the boat out with her pretty, fun, high-low hemmed wedding dress when she married Tim Rosenman just last month in California, and frankly we’d expect nothing less from the fashionista! The dress, which was reportedly modeled on an Italian chandelier, featured a magical metre long train and was embellished with pearls and silver embroidery and was accessorised to perfection with specially made matching shoes. This one is top three of the year for us – we just love to see a non-traditional bride mixing it up on her special day!

celebrity-weddings-2016-sophie-hunter-valentino-dress

Sophie Hunter in Valentino

In a rather hushed wedding, director and playwright Sophie Hunter married fiancé Sherlock Benedict Cumberbatch in an incredible silver lace Valentino couture gown earlier this year. Sophie, who was pregnant with the couple’s first child when they tied the knot in March looked radiant in the photo released by the designer two months after the Big Day – and with a strict social media rule on the 12 guests we’re lucky we got to see it at all!

Celebrity_Weddings_2015_Sofia_Vergara_Dress

Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad

Okay, so pretty much anything you put on the ultra glam Sophie Vergara is going to look incredible, but the actress’s fabulous Zuhair Murad was a triumph of a wedding gown. Glamorous, elegant, unique and very memorable, the designer hit all the right spots with a gown that reportedly took 1,657 hours to make and featured 17lbs of pearls and and sequins.

Bar_Refaeli_Wedding_Dress_Celebrity_Boho

Bar Refaeli in Chloe

Supermodel Bar Refaeli went modern boho with a dreamy Chloe dress for her wedding in Israel this year. Simplicity was key to the sheer spaghetti strap gown, letting the radiant bride’s natural beauty shine bright. It’s a gown that looks like a dream to wear – light, soft, long and flattering, and ideal for a beauty like Bar.

Celebrity_Weddings_2015_Ali_Astall_Wedding_Dress

Ali Astall in Phillipa Lepley

Designer Phillipa Lepley has had a couple of high profile brides on her hands this year, with Geri Halliwell donning one of her stunning designs for her wedding last month, and new wife of TV presenter Declan Donnelly sporting a very classic creation of hers earlier this year. Ali’s silk princess gown featured a pretty boat neck and long train and was timeless in its simplicity.

Michelle-keegan-wedding-dress-gahlia-lahav

Michelle Keegan in Gahlia Lahav

Actress Michelle Keegan wed hubby Mark Wright wearing one of our fave designers this year; Galia Lahav. Like most brides, Michelle had a wobble when she tried on her wedding dress just three months before the wedding, she wasn’t convinced it was The One – but unlike most brides she was able to call up Galia Lahav and have a whole new figure flattering gown made instead in record time!

lisa-cannon-susanne-neville-wedding-dress

Lisa Cannon in Suzanne Neville

Last but not least, our very own celeb blogger Lisa Cannon tied the knot with partner Richard Keatley in Florence in September wearing an incredibly beautiful Suzanne Neville creation. Lisa worked with the UK designer in her Knightsbridge Boutique in London and in turn with Deirdre Kelly from Kadee Bride in Athlone (who stocks Suzanne’s dresses here in Ireland) “to create a bespoke dress that was both elegant and timeless.” Check out more photos of this stunning gown and see how Lisa & Richard’s Big Day unfolded in her heartfelt blog post here.

There is no item of clothing as romantic as a soft, stunning full length lace dress. Lace has always been a go-to fabric in bridal but fell out of favour a little in the early 2000s as brides looked for more modern silhouettes in silk, or more dramatic ballgowns of tulle to create a really unique look on their day. Luckily ever since one Miss Middleton floated down the aisle in her show-stopping lace sleeve and bodice ballgown five years ago (five?! Where has the time gone?!) brides have seen the power of the lace wedding dress. Whether it’s a full French lace overlay, a soft capped sleeve, or added in the bodice or through a scalloped train, there’s always room for a touch of luscious lace on your wedding dress – check out some of our favourite ways brides have worn lace for their Big Day below!

17 Stunning Spring Wedding Dresses for a Fine Art Bride

$

You may not be very familiar with the term ‘fine art wedding’, but we’ve no doubt if you’re a fan of US wedding blogs, or have ever Pinned a bridal guna in your life, you’ve come across these exquisitely styled celebrations. Fine art weddings are all about soft, romantic palettes, elegant, understated stationery, glam yet pared back tablescapes and of course at the centre of it all the graceful bride in the most alluring dress you’ve seen all day (if you’re browsing wedding blogs every day of the week of course.) These weddings are captured by photographers with an incredible eye for softness and light, and with the longer days and soft sunsets, we think Spring is the most perfect time for a fine art wedding in Ireland!

Couture designers such as Pallas, Paolo Sebastian and Inbal Dror are called upon again and again by brides looking for that romantic gown with a real wow factor, and many opt for non-traditional dresses with colour. Lately however more designers are popping up in Fine Art weddings – Mira ZwillingerElizabeth DyeWillowby by Watters and plenty of Etsy designers – making the look a lot more accessible for brides with a budget. Today we’re sharing some of our favourite dresses that we think are perfect for a Spring wedding and a fine art bride.

Budget-Friendly Bridal – Introducing the Wedding Dress Collections from H&M & ASOS

In the last few years the high street has come on leaps and bounds when it comes to wedding-wear, offering stylish mother-of-the-bride separates and launching beautiful bridesmaid collections that rival some of the top designers in their fields. Pretty white dresses fit for a fashionable bride have popped up in a lot of places too, but it’s this year that sees two of the power houses of fast-fashion – ASOS online and H&M on the high street – launch their first fully dedicated bridal collections to much fanfare. ASOS was the first to announce its sortie into the world of wedding dresses last year, and in November showcased 18 pieces of dresses and separates dedicated to brides on a real budget. Hot on the heels has come H&M’s Conscious Bridal Collection launched this week, which features three wedding-ready and eco-friendly gowns priced from €199 to €499. So without further adieu, let’s have a goo at what the two fashionista faves have come up with…

The Conscious Bride

H&M’s brand new Conscious Collection, launched earlier this month, marks the Swedish brand’s first foray into the world of bridal fashion. Described as “a feast of lightness and embellishment materialised in dreamy, draped lines, for the bride wanting to be as beautifully dressed as she is conscious”, the three wedding dresses fit for the modern romantic bride on a budget are an exciting addition to the retailer’s eco-friendly range.

H&M Conscious, a collection of sustainably produced fair-trade fashion pieces, utilises an assortment of recycled fabrics and embellishments such as organic cotton and reclaimed rhinestones to create a ‘conscious’ collection of clothes. The wedding dresses, priced from €199 to €499, offer brides-to-be the chance to exercise their ethical muscles when opting for high street wedding-wear. We love Niké, an effortlessly cool off-white lace number with bags of boho beauty (modelled by daughter of ex Vogue Paris Editor Julia Restoin Roitfeld) and the idea of pairing some of the stunning embellished jackets (Carine, below is an absolute beaut) with a little Art Deco-inspired number for a real boho city bride feel.

The new collection drops on April 7th.

ASOS Bridal

When e-tail giant ASOS announced last year that they planned to launch their first collection of affordable wedding dresses, many industry insiders saw it as the dawning of a new age of bridal. The online store has trialled a range of bridesmaid dresses already to much success, and their regular edits of wedding guest outfits always has us coming back for more. Their selection of super stylish and contemporary wedding shoes has had us falling over ourselves in recent months so it’s fair to say that we weddingsonline girls were pretty excited when the collection dropped in November!

The ASOS Bridal Collection has since picked up speed with the announcement of more high street faves testing the wedding-wear waters. Traditional style embroidered fish tail gowns, sweet lace tea lengths, super chic LWDs, tiered boho-inspired maxi dresses and rock chick jumpsuits make up the collection of budget-friendly bridal fit for any style of bride.

It’s Finally Here! The Daalarna Couture Flowers Collection hits Irish Soil

Every now and again we feature a designer who consistently floors us with their timeless, breathtaking creations and Hungarian couturier Anita Benes, the mastermind behind bridal label Daalarna Couture, is just one such designer. Brand new to Irish soil and exclusive to The White Room in Westmeath, the Daalarna collection with its classic silhouettes, spectacular fabrics and contemporary details epitomises the elegance of the modern bride, and their new collection adds a real edge to the label while still retaining its signature feminine feel.

The 2016 collection ‘Flowers‘ was inspired by nature and specifically by the plein-air landscape paintings of French Impressionist artist Claude Monet. The result is an offering of entirely ethereal creations which adopt the harmonious beauty of the natural elements through evocative flourishes of ornamentation. Floral lace embroidery, 3D daisy-like appliqués, light-as-air tulle and chiffon skirts and Monet-esque prints that conjure an image of spring fairies fluttering at the bottom of a garden in full bloom all combine to create a magical collection of wearable pieces of art.

One of our favourite features throughout the collection is the delicate French Chantilly lace scalloped necklines which frame the dress beautifully and add a real feminine feel. Figures are accentuated too through the use of crochet lace tops which pinch the waist and cascade into soft flowing tulle and chiffon skirts. Pearl and Swarovski elements add depth to each of the gowns.

‘Flowers’ is a stunning continuation of Daalarna’s previous offering ‘Pearl’ (also stocked in the wonderful White Room in Mullingar!). Benes’ understanding of the modern bride’s search for a wedding dress that is elegant, sophisticated, sexy and unique is on display in each dress, which often push the boundaries of bridal with deep necklines, low backs, skin-tight silhouettes and ultra modern fabrics. The boho bride and contemporary princess has been catered for too through the years by Benes – a designer who is not afraid of a ballgown and has a real penchant for a statement sleeve.

We’re obviously head over heels in love with Daalarna, and super excited that it’s finally hit Irish shores. If you’ve fallen hard for the designer, contact the girls in The White Room in Mullingar who will advise you what styles they’re currently stocking for Irish brides – we’ll take one of each ourselves!

15 Fabulous Bridal Sashes to Finish off your Wedding Day Look

While many wedding dresses provide more than enough bling for a glamorous bride, some can really benefit from the addition of a gorgeous bridal sash or pretty wedding dress belt. Fabulous sashes are a great way to accentuate the waist on an A-line or a fit and flare dress and when embellished with sparkling Swarovski crystals, bold rhinestones or elegant pearls, can add that little bit of ‘bridal’ to an otherwise simple but chic dress. When it comes to trying out that bit of extra bling on your guna, look to bridal accessories designers such as Lilly Bella and Niece Couture, two excellent accessories designers who are stocked in a number of bridal boutiques around Ireland including Smart Brides in Portlaoise, McElhinneys Bridal Rooms in Donegal and Diamond Bridal in Cork.

Bigger bridal design houses like Pronovias and Enzoani also put out their own accessories each season which are carried by several boutiques around the country. For those on a budget, we’ve found some great options from the likes of ASOS, Monsoon and even River Island that could make your look really unique and different, and of course you can always get your hands on a huge range of bridal accessories online from e-tailers such as Etsy and BHLDN. If a full sash isn’t your bag, opt instead for a pretty embellished appliqué which your designer can add to your dress before the final fitting.

The Very Vintage Wedding Dresses of Gwendolynne

Vintage loving brides have no doubt come across the stunning designs of Aussie bridal house Gwendolynne while researching their Big Day wear. These strong, heavily embellished art deco gowns could be straight out of an F. Scott Fitzgerald Jazz Age novel, their luxurious hand-beaded couture details and wispy silhouettes entirely typical of the feminine, ultra glamorous gowns of the prohibition era. But designer Gwendolynne Burkin’s approach is exactly the opposite of ‘fashion’ and ‘trends’, relying instead on her intuition in designing gowns for brides who want to feel beautiful and unique in a piece that blends the historic and the modern.

Elaborate antique trimmings typify a Gwendolynne gown, and it’s these striking embellishments contrasting beautifully with delicate, romantic fabrics like French and Italian lace that create a soft yet strong look for an edgy, elegant and style-confident bride.

Gwendolynne Wedding Dress Stockists Ireland

Gwendolynne wedding dresses are exclusively stocked for Irish brides in Little White Dress in Castleknock, Dublin. The price range for the collection is €3200 – €3600. Please contact Little White Dress directly to inquire about specific dresses.

17 Super Sweet Tea Length Wedding Dresses for a Retro Bride

There is something so cute and fun about 1950s style tea-length wedding dresses and with summer on the way (the ideal season for a shorter hemline, obvs) we’re checking out some of the sweetest styles from real brides and brilliant designers.

Tea length dresses are a fabulous alternative to classic floor length gowns and are particularly suited to shorter ladies who don’t want to be swamped by a traditional full ball gown but love the idea of the ‘princess style’ wedding dress. ‘Tea lengths’ now encompass all sorts of hemlines, from the full under-skirted calf length to the more conservative ballerina length and those cropped just above or just below the knee. Styles such as pencil, pleats are a fab option for a city wedding, while godet and tulip style skirts are a beautiful option for a garden party style wedding (and look like the most fun to wear too!)

If you’re looking for your own bit of retro for your Big Day, check out international designers such as Justin Alexander and House of Mooshki (stocked by the wonderful Padanee Bridal Couture in Leitrim) and Irish designers DePaor Designs and the incredible Ro Molloy Bridal Couture (see some of their amazing styles below!).
