Following from Tuesday’s look at the top wedding trends 2016 where we featured everything from detachable skirts to daring backs, we present part two of our pick of the best bridal trends 2016!

The Cape

Now, this is a Wow trend if ever we did see one. The caped wedding dress is one of the more unusual trends to emerge for 2016 and needs a woman with a boat load of confidence and a decent bit of height to really carry it off (Google Solange Knowles’ 2014 wedding to see how it’s done). Seen at Ralph & Russo (top left & bottom right, the latter being an incredible Solange-inspired jumpsuit/cape combo), Pronovias (top right), Sareh Nouri and Jenny Packham (bottom left), the cape demands attention and is a trend we’re hoping to see some super stylish Irish brides embrace in 2016.

Thigh High Slit

The leg-baring dress may have gotten a bad rap for the unfortunate Angelina Jolie Right Leg Oscars Meme in 2012, but one area that’s embracing it with everything it’s got is the bridal market. Seen at Monique Lhuillier (left), Berta, Inbal Dror (right), Mira Zwillinger and Jim Hjelm, this is one sexy style perfect for a beach celebration or a seriously chic city soiree.

Separates

If you’re already well into your wedding dresscapades, chances are you’ve dabbled in a couple of separates as you search for something really unique. Before, bridal separates were seen as cool, casual alternatives to traditional dresses, however this year designers such as Watters are pushing the boat out with stunning ballgown skirts and corsets to give brides more choice when it comes to recreating a classic look. If you fancy flexing your style muscles and giving separates a go, look to BHLDN, Halfpenny London (left), Sarah Seven (centre) or Rime Arodaky (right).

Capped Sleeves

Getting our vote for prettiest trend of 2016 has to be the band of beautiful lace capped sleeves at Pronovias, Sincerity Bridal (top left), Halfpenny London (top right), Sarah Seven (bottom left), Lela Rose, Stephanie Allin, Marchesa (bottom right) et al. The dainty lace capped sleeve is a wonderful thing, giving brides the option to cover up their shoulders with delicate lace without pinching the skin.

Jumpsuit

One trend we are really hoping Irish brides will get on board with this year is the super chic 70s inspired jumpsuit. Seen at Mark Zunino (left), Angel Sanchez (centre), THEIA, Houghton and Anna Kara (right), the jumpsuit is a fab alternative for brides not into the big white dress thing but who want to still look the part on their Big Day!

Off the Shoulder

Girls who favour a Grecian style dress are going to love the glamorous off the shoulder trend that has come to the fore this year. Designers such as Rivini (top left), Rosa Clara, J Mendel (top right), Halfpenny London (bottom left) and Marchesa (bottom right) have fully embraced the sexy shoulder and created some of this year’s most stunning statement dresses, perfect for the bride looking for something a little off-tradition for her Big Day.

Return to Tradition

Alas, brides with a penchant for all things classic needn’t fear the year of trends as, thankfully tradition prevails in many of the top bridal designers collections this year. Ballgowns, soft mermaid styles, lace and long sleeves (it’s more of a staple than a trend now, surely) all feature heavily among the biggest design houses, meaning you can still look and feel like the quintessential bride this year, while still being bang on trend. Seen at Oscar de la Renta, Stephanie Allin (top left), Ines di Santo (top right), Pronovias (bottom left) and Watters (bottom right).
